Bridge Spoiler Q

The car's going into the body shop after TT for the repairs following the truck incident, and the guy wondered whether the bridge spoiler is bonded to the window or not. I've done some googling and it looks like it is bonded to the frame, and the frame is then screwed into the window. That right? Make his life easier if it can come off the car for the respray I guess.

Hello,

If I am not mistaken the glass is bonded to the frame with windshield glue, and the complete frame attaches to the shell with 4 bolts, and obviously with the two gas struts and the two hatch pins (these pesky greasy metallic things that sometimes come hitting your head without warning).

The upper 4 bolts must be removed to remove the whole hatch assembly from the car.
 
The bridge spolier is not bonded, it is bolted at the ends. The screws are hidden by trims, you have to remove the rubbers and trims to get at the spoiler fixings. Its not that onerous.
 
That's if the screws don't just spin and spin and spin and spin like mine!! I have now fully rebonded it on, much improved on original fixings, and it will always need painted in situ!

I had the pleasure of removing a few of these late 944 / 968 bridge spoilers in my time.
Firstly they have two jockey stick trims down each side
that are held on with tiny screws on the inside of the tail gate , you need a screw bit that looks like a flat head but with a cut in the middle to undo
them .
They do tend to just turn freely and if that is the case , then do not despair ! The jockey trim will simply pull away from the tailgate and then
you can hold the flat end with mow grips and undo from the inside of the tailgate.
Once removed , clean them and stick them back on with strong
window sticker flex bound. Once you done that part then you find that the rear spoiler it self is in two parts . You need to remove the rear rubber seal to expose the screws
that hold it in place and there are spacers in-between to look out for as well .
Both spoilers I dealt with the big screws were seized in solid and had to be drilled out.
I also found that the top part of the spoiler's GRP type material had cracked and had to be repaired before refitting .
Overall a real fiddly job to do and must have patience .

Basically a real pain in the butt and would advise try paint without removing the bridge spoiler !!!
 
Pig nosed nuts hold the "Hockey stick" on, you can buy the bit on eBay. I replaced all the nuts, bolts, rubberised washers and pig nosed nuts for my bridge spoiler for about £20 from OPC.
