Bridge Spoiler

Anyone got any ideas were the best place to get hold of one of these is?

Should I try a breakers first or can anyone suggest a good supplier
of a copy cat spoiler which I can get painted up.

The internet is an evil thing.

New car and internet equals many parts available online and now dwindling bank account.

Cheers

Simon Butterworth at Porsch-Apart can probably supply a genuine one - the trouble is that all the fasteners down the side are expensive (like £4 each IIRC, and there are 16 or so of them) and they break if you remove them. He only does complete tailgates then, which are around £500 - not a problem anyhow as the genuine spoiler won't fit the rubber spoiler hatch.

Aftermarket copies are available but I don't know how good they are. I can't see how they can look right as the actual glass is different between a bridge spoiler and a rubber spoiler tailgate - not different in shape, but in the holes drilled. Also the side trims for a bridge are different from a rubber spolier.

edited to make it make sense!

I have got an original bridge spoiler but it needs some work to complete. It was purchased as it had some damage to the fixing points, and didnt come with the side sections that go up the sides of the screen to the roof. Due to the huge cost of these (£350 each) I purchased some aftermarket ones that have been grafted onto the spoiler. I never finished the project as I sold the car, it still needs some filling, rubbing down and obviously painting if you are interested. It is at my parents house but can get some pics if anyone is interested? It will need collecting as it's too big to post obviously.

Try Club Autosport, they do a bridge spolier for the rubber spoiler type rear window, as well as a replacement for the bridge type rear window. Not too dear either. For something a little more extreme they have 968 Turbo S rear spoilers for both applications.

Try http://www.clubautosport.co.uk/

or call Richard on: 01384 410879

(I have one of their bridge spoilers on my 944 and it looks the same as the one on my old 968 CS)

There is a US-based company that is making a batch of bridge spoilers that are designed to the 944 hatch. I have one of them on my car in the photo attached. The name of the company is 944racing.com, although I beleive their site is currently down. I have been told the spoilers will be done in the next month or so. I can keep you informed if you are interested. They are US$499 plus shipping.

Also try Simon at http://www.essentialstyling.com

I have seen their adjustable bridge spoiler fully painted and fitted to a Lux and it looked superb, I can only guess that their a standard bridge would look just as good

There was a chap at front runner last weekend with a complete spoiler and hatch assembly for sale.

Porscheshop do two versions @ £175 or £270

Club Autosport do a version for £130

If you look at a rubber and bridge spoiler car side by side you will see that all the hatch perimeter trims are different.

The after market ones seem to provide varying levels of quality in both the spoiler and trims. I am yet to meet an owner who has carried out the conversion and is completely happy. If going that route I would be inclined to get an original bridge spoiler hatch complete and swap over the whole hatch.

The original spoilers come in at least 3 parts maybe even 4. You get the trims that run up the side of the hatch frame, the spoiler itself and maybe even the bit that goes under the spoiler. Essential Styling offer a copy of the original.

I've seen a couple of the Essential Styling ones fitted and they are good.

My personal favourie is the adjustable one fitted to Peter Empsons white Lux. It was at the Dyno Day and the quality looks very good IMHO. Whether that is down to the base product or the quality of painting and installation I cannot say.

With now disrespect to Peter (or Simon at ESS) I am not keen on the way the centre section joins to the outer legs. The adjustment detail looks bulky and cumbersome in comparison with a real RS Turbo adjustable rear wing. The ESS non-adjustable version is much smoother, though both require much care to get anything like an "as Porsche would have fitted it" finish.

The above shamelessly ripped of Rick's events page - thanks Rick. Not a bad picture though (though I say so myself)

Club Autosport products are cheap in every sense of the word and the Porscheshop version is of no better quality but far more expensive. All MHO, you understand.

I agree about the brackets and I think the non-adjustable is the one to have for looks. I do believe that not painting the brackets white (or light blue for that matter) but keeping them black would lose them a bit however. It would probably look its best on a dark coloured car.

I have a complete hatch and bridge spoiler far sale (Im the guy referred to at Frontrunner). I pondered long and hard about fitting an aftermaket wing, but after talking to the guys that sold them and how you were meant to fit them (screws into GRP (fibreglass), no pre-drilled location points.....no thanks!).

So after lots of ringing round and message leaving, Porsch-Apart eventually contacted me to say that they had one....you have to have the complete hatch for the proper bridge spoiler.

It cost me over £500 inc delivery, but before I could fit it, I planted my turbo in a hedge on april fools day!

I've since bought a cab and dont need the spolier,so its for sale at around £400. I can mail you pics if you like, I live near Banbury in Oxfordshire.

Cheers,

Dave.
