Brightening up the interior

evoke

New member
I' ve got a MY03 2.7 Boxster and I ordered the Full Leather option in black. Unfortunately, this makes the interior look rather dull (the leather not actually looking like leather doesn' t help).

So, apart from the couple of standard bits of aluminium-look trim, the entire interior is boring black.

Hence, what options are there of sprucing up the interior? I don' t want to spend thousands of pounds so am after recommendations on the ' biggest bang for the buck' . As a starter, I am considering the painted dials option. The options need to be ' official' and obtainable from an OPC to keep the warranty intact.

Any suggestions? (Apart from I shouldn' t have ordered a black interior!).

I use the car every day for work and pleasure and the reason I want to improve the interior before the exterior is that I spend hours looking at it.

found this on the BoXa.nett forum which i thought you might like the price to do after sale is £££££££££££.
I too have a all Black leather interior in a standard black Boxster . i' ve got sill guards and a silver gear knob. i have to say we looked into doing the above but when we found out how much it would cost we decided we could live with the black.
we must be happy with it as we have just ordered the GT3 to match.[8D]

Thanks, Helen. I' ve found my Tequipment Boxster brochure and the picture you posted looks like a car with the Aluminium look interior option. I think it does brighten up the interior but I fear we are talking a lot of £££' s.

I' ve got the silver sill guards and the MY03 does come with the odd bit of alu-look trim but not enough of it. I still think the painted dials seem the best option to get started. I believe these are standard on the ' S' but options on the 2.7.

correct but you can buy these via someone like simon of essential styling for a lot less that your OPC will charge.

if your coming to Eynsham have a look round the trade fair. you might find some special offers around.

Take a look at these pics on Ebay. They are made by Prestige Parts who advertise in PP, and the quality of their work is very good at very reasonable prices (even better if you can get it on Ebay) They often come to shows like Eynsham.

There is more of his stuff at http://www.prestigeparts.co.uk/boxsterinterior2.htm only this is at full price.

I think it depends a lot on what you have been used to before. Most German cars seem to have plainer coloured interiors. I have found that if you wait a while, you tend to get used to it and even get to like the ' understated' style. They tend to be a bit more classic and less likely to go out of fasion. After a while brighter intriors might appear tacky.

Thanks for the comments. My previous car was a Merc and that had a reasonably nice interior with a combination of wood, chrome and leather that just broke up the monotony of pure black - all very subtle and classy.

As I said before, I spend a lot of time behind the wheel as the Boxster is my only car and it' s just nice to have some delicate touches inside the car. I am conscious of the fact that overdoing it is just plain tacky.

I think Helen mantioned the Aluminium Gear knob and that does look very nice with the Porsche crest on it.

Yes a lot of these aftermarket items are only attractive in the eye of the beholder. Personal tastes vary widely, so it' s important to keep the original bits so the car can be reverted back to standard quickly.

IMO the standard gearknob is more comfortable to use though.

but I fear we are talking a lot of £££' s.
Absolutely correct. As Helen said we were thinking about this but got scared off. Main problem seems to be that you can' t just buy the bit you want. For instance we thought about metallic look decal rings for the instrument dials (as you get on the Boxster S). We were told that we would have to buy the whole instrument cluster at over £700 plus VAT!! We could probably have found the rings somewhere and tried sticking them on ourselves, but this would have meant stripping the existing ones off and sticking the new ones on - not worth the risk for us.
Bottom line is if you want a significant change, it' s probably cheaper to change the whole car!![]

Hi Larry
I thought you could buy the aluminium look rings separately circa £100 to fit yourself (and allegedly a simple job!).
I' ll look out the link for you
