Brilliant website if you are a petrolhead!

Was just browsing some statistics for a car that was driving like an idiot earlier and came across this website...and spent the last hour or so on it: http://www.zeperfs.com/en/ (sounds dodgy I know but I promise you it's not!!).

If you go to the top you can select "DUEL" (in small writing) and enter your car, then see what you can beat (in theory) in terms of speed, acceleration, flexibility etc. Now I know that most of the figures will be out or "in an ideal world" but I figure that'll be the case for all makes so it's a level playing field (even if Porsche are always on the pessimistic side). Amazing which modern cars appear to be quick and are just not and also which ones in theory mine could keep up with!

A testament to Porsche in my opinion who clearly did an amazing job of engineering their cars to keep up even 20 years on.

Sadly doesn't take into account driving ability (or lack of)!!

Enjoy!

Not wishing to sound clever, its no surprise to me as its all about power to weight.

Old skool cars were lighter by miles, less strong, less crumple zones, less sound deadening, more motors, more air bags etc etc etc

eg; the latest Golf Gti is no quicker than the original despite a near 35% hike in power

Also consider the 30mph incremental times [forget 0-60 willy waving]- a 944 is still very fast even today.

I want to know what the car was now. My favourite ever duel in a 944 was against a 'seat cup' driver in a 240hp Seat Cupra (whatever its called now that replaced the 'R') this was just before the car was released and he was driving one that had been lent to him. After 10minutes of extremely spirited driving he gave up trying to get away and pulled over to chat.

From my seat I would say that although he pulled a little ground on the few bits of straight, I 'could' gain on him through the bends but had to drive beyond what I was comfortable with to do so. Still I maintained the gap with this unknown car and was extremely pleased with the old 944 when I discovered what it was and who was driving!

That was in a chipped (but totally knackered) 944s

:) Mine loves nothing more than a little dust up! It was a Focus ST. I saw him in the mirror as he was driving like an idiot for about half a mile before he overtook me and we ended up side by side at lights. He didn't get a good start off the line that's for sure and from then on couldn't really keep up, spirited as it was! Lost him at the following roundabout though I must say that he did a fair job of getting round the next one. I felt my point was made and left him to it, he seemed to calm down a bit too after that. Would love to have stopped to chat; some people take it so personally.

Damn, I wish Id not seen that site now. Just compared my S against both my previous cars (Octavia 1.8T vRS and Octavia2 vRS TDi) [&o]

My friend has an Octy MK1 VRS and I have to say it flies! Certainly in 1st and 2nd. I bought mine after owning 2 Fabia VRS's; the second was remapped to 160bhp and I was a bit worried that I'd miss the torque...I don't, especially as the Porsche delivers in a completely different way. So much more fun! I do sometimes miss the feeling of getting into your car and knowing there is absolutely nothing that needs fixing though. Still, all part of the fun eh?!
