Bringing a LHD 991 4S to the UK

Hello

By means of introduction, I am Christoph Jans, current resident of Switzerland and about to head over to the UK with my wife Edita and our Swiss Spec (so LHD) 991 4S for two hopefully wonderful years in the UK. We are coming because my employer assigned me to London for that period.

I am currently trying to get my head around all the things required to get the car registered in the UK. The car luckily has the LED headlights which are software switchable to accommodate the driving on the left side. I can also select a MPH Display of the Speed. Finally, I had a rear light replaced such that the car now has the fog light on the right.

I was wondering if anyone here has already brought a LHD 991 over from the continent, and if there are any tipps as to how to do this best?

Personally, I'd leave it on Swiss plates, on the basis that you are only here temporarily.
Strictly speaking, I think you should re-register it if you are here for more than 6 months, but many don't, and you can always say you are going back and forth, and planning to sell it in Switzerland, if asked - which you won't - London is full of lhd cars on overseas plates.
I keep a rhd car on UK plates in France on this basis - it comes back to the UK for a few weeks each year and a new MOT (annual vehicle check).
Hopefully you'll love London - if you are looking for an apartment I have one for rental - 100m from Hyde Park Corner, in a gated mews, with its own garage and private parking.

The option of leaving a UK car in Switzerland and bringing it back to UK for MOT etc was considered but discounted mainly because of insurance difficulties. [FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=calibri"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=calibri"]In the end we bought a car in Switzerland which is on Swiss Plates, insured in Switzerland and remains in Switzerland. [FONT=verdana,geneva"]

[FONT=calibri"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=calibri"]On the other hand I bought a LHD 997GT3 from Belgium and imported it into UK where it is now on UK plates and insured in UK and has just passed its MOT again. I have also just extended the warranty for another 2 years [FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=calibri"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=calibri"]Converting the Belgian car to comply with UK regulations was very simple and in your OP you identify the key items. I was able to drive the car in UK on Belgian plates with UK insurance until such time as my official UK plate came through. [FONT=verdana,geneva"]
