For anyone who is interested in mounting their PDA, mobile phone or other techie device in there car, there is a new Brodit pro-clip available.

This was in 'test phase' until Monday (this week) when I finished testing it and wrote my final report. For what it's worth it fits like a glove.

product code is: 653540 and should soon be available from outlets.

Exactly! You'd think Tony would at least go and buy himself a left hand drive car in the spirit of public service. Some people eh?

Seriously Tony, what's the damage (cost) and what's the damage (attachment to car)? I've got sat nav on my phone so one of those would be ideal. How do you attach your device onto the Brodit - are there dedicated attachments according to the type of device?

Actualy the fitting is a piece of cake and the damage to your car is zero. The cost, I believe, is roughly 20.00GBP.

It attaches to the car by 2 methods. The first is purely by it's snug fit. Mine is effectivly free to travel but because the fit is so good it doesn't move anyway. The second is 2 sticker strips, one at the back, one at the front, these just give it that extra support. You can see the yellow strip at the back in the first photo.

I sooooo got to have one of those.

The suction cup thing that comes with the Tom-Tom Ipac set-up is dire!

JCB..

The only problem I see is that the sat-nav is mounted too far down - way out of your eye line.
I have a different solution that I'm now using. I have a 90degree bracket mounted so that it pokes out of the gap between the instrument binnacle and the dashboard (986). I have a swivelmount stuck to that - and it works a treat! It's in the right place, in my vision, and it doesn''t move.
Not TOTALLY elegant - but it is non-damaging and easily removable (as is the Brodit mount above).

If you've got a 987 you can pull out the cupholder, stick the bottom end of a paper cup in there and then rest your phone in the cup. Hardly a solution to befitting a £35k car, but it works! Only problem is that it's in the line of your dash vents so it roasts your phone!

I find I hardly look at the screen - the voice announcements are sufficient so the device being at knee level isn't a big deal I don't think.
