Broken Drop Forged Alloy.

Look what happened to me on saturday!
Was on the track at Crail and heard a knocking sound through the wheel. Slowed down and came off the track, but couldn't see anything unusual. Decided not to go back out and noticed, five minutes later, that the spoke had broken, presumably during the wheel cooling off.
Be careful out there kids!!

That is scarey []

How long have you had this wheel Derek? Was it as new with the car or did you get it 2nd hand as a spare set for track use?

These wheels are in demand and you pay a premium to get them because of their supposed strength and light weight due to the thin spokes

As far as I know, it's the original set of wheels on it. They'll be 15 years old now. I was somewhat surprised that it gave up the ghost. My guess is that it must have taken a hit from a pothole or something and what I was asking it to do at the weekend, was a step too far. Am trying to source a new wheel, but want the same type to keep the car original.

Derek,

I guess the AA man sorted you out for the moment. When he turned up with a truck that required the wheels to secure the vehicle, I was a bit worried how he was going to get you home.

All the best
