broken key

Hi Folks,

The casing of my key has been broken and the circuit board has gone missing. I'm currently trying to determine the cause of the damage and who should be held responsible...

I have found that the car alarm is still armed if I use the key to lock the door, but the car alarm is not disarmed when I use the same key to unlock the door! Very odd... I thought that the remote was what armed and disarmed the alarm, can anyone explain?!

I am wondering whether I can get a new circuit board to go inside the key seeing as I still have the key casing and the key blade, anyone know?

And does anyone know if the circuit board, if in the "wrong" hands, can be used to unlock my car?

I've read that it will cost £500 to get a replacement key and recode... and depending on the answer to the circuit board question, I might have to recode the car to ensure that it's secure. :-(

The only thing you can do is take your logbook (V5C) as proof of ownership and the service book and go to your local Porsche centre to order a new key....

They won't repair your old one.

Good luck

Are you covered by your car or home insurance policies?

If you have 'lost' the key................????

The circuit board, in the wrong hands and not damaged, might be able to open the car. But your OPC can tell your car to ignore individual keys/boards. So take car along and tell them you only want it to work with your remaining spare key (assuming you have one!)

I've ordered a new key "head" which comes with the circuit board and I'm going to get the car and both remote fobs reprogrammed tomorrow.

£110 for the key "head"
£75 for the reprogramming

So your £500 was a little bit out then? [;)] (thank goodness!)

Glad hat you updated us with the results, whilst no one wants the problem to happen in thefirst place I do think considering other marques thats a reasonable outcome.
If you're a club member you could always ask for a 10% discount [:)]
