broken one way valve

I replaced all the vacuum hosing on the car the other day and as I pulled off the old hosing at the rear inlet take off, this small blue and black valve snapped. It seems to have a hose that runs along the bulk head to a small part the size of a cork that is black and orange on the inner wing. What is this part for and is it ok for me just to block up the hose instead of replacing it with a new valve?
 
It should run into the vacumn reservoir which is a black cylinder about 4 inches long and 3 inches diameter just next to the wiper motor. The one way valve is one of those wierd parts not listed on PET so I can't give you the part number. I snapped mine about 6 years ago and J Z Machtech knew exactly what it was when I called them and kept them in stock. Posted it out to me for a few quid
