Afternoon all.

Was down looking at my engine today, which should be making it's way back into the car next week, and noticed this broken thing? Can't say I've noticed it being there or being broken before!

Possibly the remains of a heat shield? Let me know what you think, and if you have a brand new one available for less than a tenner!!

Cheers

Stuart

Ok, thanks for all your help............. [:D]

Turns out to be a heat shield indeed and it protects a chunk of sump gasket as well as the oil level sensor.

944 101 033 04. Seems it is quite common to break in the same way mine has. With a nice discount got it from Glasgow OPC for £47.12 plus vat. Be with me Wednesday morning.

Let the engine re-installing commence!!

Looks familiar. On my S2 it's broken and re welded twice...suggestion was that vibration had caused it and sure enough it was found that the balance belt had jumped a few teeth. Runs smoother now. Engine in, it looked like manifold and other stuff would have to come out first.

Yeah I'll definitely bolt the new one on before anything gets in the way during the engine re-fitting.
