I need to fit a new rear undertray to my 1990 964 C4. On inspecting the underside I found that many of the short threaded studs for the plastic nuts for retaining undertrays and side skirts were snapped and too short to use. Has anybody else found this, and what have been your solutions? I shudder at the thought of using self-tappers.

Grind down the broken stud flush with the underbody, drill out the stud then try using a rivstud. This is what many who have done this say is the best sturdy alternative.

I dont know what type of fasteners you are looking for but eBay auto trimmers have thousands of different types. As most if not all are plastic they do not rust and are cheap and easy to fit. They come in a range of sizes, you will just have to trawl through them.

My rivet gun expands rivnuts but for only small diameter bolts. You can use a bolt, locking nut and two spanners. Aluminum rivnuts are the easiest to expand. The fitting of stainless steel rivnuts is a lot more difficult without the proper expansion tools.Dekker said:I like the DIY tool inserter for Rivnuts
