Brown gunge

Car running sluggish and noisy over 70mph checked oil and level was just below the minimum - and also brown gunge. Topped up to correct level, and running marginally better. Any advice - car an 89 3.2 - 107K miles - last serviced about 2000 miles agp at JZ
 
That brown gunge is condensation due to the oil not getting hot enough to burn it off. I am guessing that the brown is actually rust from the oil tank due to the condensation.

I bet you do a lot of short journeys?

What is the noise?
