Bubbles on alloys

I had this on all four wheels of my 2001S. I had it fixed under warranty in March this year. It is now re-emerging at the edges of the "spokes". My car has only done about 5K since being fixed. Factory quality control problem I guess. I am working out what to do about it. I lost the car for a week before and they failed to meet the promised completion date. When I collected the car they gave me a bill for £200 which I of course I refused to pay. The repair work was done at the Lancaster multi fanchise body shop at Harlow. It was directed there by Lancaster Cambridge Porsche OPC.

Thought alloys were impervious to rust?

Yes, but they corrode in their own special way, sounds like either get OPC to fix if still under waranty or a do it yourself through a wheel/tyre specialist. I refurbed my old cup 1s through 'elite wheels' for £235 and they were fantastic afterwards

This is caused by water getting under the protective lacquer that is put on alloys. It often starts where the lacquer has been damaged eg by stones or kerbs or simply a problem in the manufacturing. Chrome wheels are particularly prone to this.

My current car does not have this problem but my previous car did. I found a local guy that was able to refurbish the wheels at a cost of £50 per wheel and 24hrs later they came out beautifully. The only thing that I didn't count on was that he did not have the equipment to take the tyres off, balance and put them back on afterwards so I tried to find a tyre shop to do it. A couple of tyre shops I asked were not willing to do it as they did not have the space to keep my car jacked up for 24hrs whilst I took the wheels away to be refurbished. In the end I found someone who charged me a small fee for doing so.

I asked my specialist to borrow 4 wheels and tyres just to keep the disks of the ground for 5 days while at the refurbers.

COST.......A bottle of wine [;)]

No obvious stone chips, but I guess it doesn't take much, it is just one rear wheel and I would have thought that when washing it I would have seen it .... not in warranty so it looks like a specialist is called for ..... whereabouts is Elite Wheels?

I have a bubble on the the bit where the spoke meets the rim on the rear of my 17" "Boxster" wheel which I was going to speak to the OPC about. However, I have since managed to make a lovely scrape on three of the spoke faces by misjudging a 4" curb in a multi storey so I'm going to have the whole wheel re-furbed at a specialist who has quoted £60 and "it'll look like new".

Fingers crossed.....
