Colditz Castle, Germany. ONE BUCKET LIST DONE in the 944S so 8 days and 2200 miles and 7+ Countries later.........

Well I'm dead chuffed with my 944S, have just come back from a European road trip with my 24yr son and yes both driving too having a blast too, So the plan here's the route done: Netherlands for Anne Frank Museum, Colditz Castle stayed overnight and done the tour too "Brilliant can recommend it", Nuremberg (not the track sadly didn't want to chance it) Germany, Stelvio Pass actually 3 times end to end Italy watch the Top Gear episode the most amazing mountain hairpin roads rising to 2700m and yes snow is still up there in June, Lucerne Switzerland seeing friends, Luxembourg used for a hoop and stop over to Belgium and again seeing friends again, finally Dunkirk for the ferry and then home.
So 8 days and 2,200 mile's later for 30 year old car flying along at 90+mph contending with even faster supercars of today on the German autobahn's most interesting for a ever moving map on lane changing. So the only uncomfortable thing was the 33oC temperatures with no AirCon and then add leather seats ...using hoodies for comfort yuk.....we found ourselves with windows and sunroof fully open at 90mph and music blasting out (My play list from the 80's and my son's just about everything...to grim??), so the 944s done well the only tease was a slight engine missing after 6hrs at 90mph speeds at +33oC temperature and a half tank mis-fuel in Switzerland with 95 +E10 fuel......thank you German engineering and a good jolly too[:)][:)][:)]

Sorry, if it's a cheesy post I'm so pleased we done it as in life we all talk about it but if you have things you wish for JUST DO IT!
Also sorry about the places chosen but probably the places I've visited most of you will get !!

Pictures to follow....soon !!

Good to see the car looking so nice John! It's the sort of driving the cars were designed for so great to see them putting on 2000 miles in a week. [:D]

Thanks Paul, absolutely letting the car drive as it was designed to do was enjoyable and we're so pleased with all the places (well countries) we visited and again in just 8 days it got us there and back home so a good experience for both of us, trust me undertaking such a trip in a 30 year old classic you'll always question things before you go if it will be problem free!

Thank you for your kind words sorry you couldn't achieve a wish list with your Dad, I was just very lucky and just seized the moment otherwise it would have remained just a wish and probably wouldn't have happened as often life dictates.

I've added another picture at day 4 approx mileage of 1150, this is the Stelvio Pass Italy at approx 2700m. Top Gear done an episode on this infact the goal posts are still up there where they had a game of footy with the locals if anyone watched this episode!
I haven't quite mastered posting pictures to the thread so sorry about the adhoc nature and how they're appearing!

Top of the Stelvio Pass and yes that is snow picture taken on 22 June 2017, driving from Nuremberg to Stelvio so 310 mile driving on autobahns ....wow! Each day had temperatures of 32oC in a car with no AirCon and add leather seats not the best comfort choice [:)]and parking up with snow is very bazaar!

Ha ha so I've got you lot thinking!!!.........so just do it ...often you hear I wish l done it........ for me its been a brilliant experience.

I may just post the video as a separate thread partly to show off what I done with my son and to make us petrol heads think ....yeh... thats a good thing to do.
Even my 944 teased me hence the bonnet up after 6hrs of autobahns at 90+mph it started missing, but hey if it would have broken completely it would have continued in a hire car and would have added to the experience and memories talking about it.

Just watched the video. Loved it! I'm planning a road trip 4th September for 2 weeks. Taking in the French/Italian/Swiss Alps. Porka has been down to the Alps a few times over the years, but nothing quite a epic as your trip. I'd love to hit the Stelvio pass myself. I'll have to look up a route.
Inspired [:)]

Good on you, Our idea was both of us wanted to see friends and sights.

Our plan was a brief chat basically put dots on the map and joined them together book over night stays. Realistically, we could have doubled the duration could have stayed a weekend in Nuremberg and Lucerne, at Lucerne unfortunately as we went up 3000m to Mt Pilatus but was zero vis due to low clouds so even though we've done it already some re-visits are now being planned.
