Budweg calipers? (And other brake bits).

Chaps,

I'm a keen S2 owner. And us S2 owners are clever, canny types who are always on the lookout for a deal, keen to get the best prices for the best quality parts - after all, it would be a shame to skimp on maintaining the best 944 model ever made, eh? [;)]

Knowing that the brakes on my S2 may need changing in the near-ish future (all that vast S2 power needs to be kept in close check) I have had a quick squizz at the usual online places for brake parts. And one place I have had happy buying experiences from previously is brakeparts.co.uk. I've bought brake pads from them before for a very reasonable price and I was keen to see how much they cost now. Previously I bought (I think) Pagid parts from them and they were the real thing when they arrived, not (as I had feared) cheapo knock-offs. This time they are offering pads for between £18.58p/axle (Ferodo) and £87.20p/axle ('Competition', no brand specified.)

While on the site I noticed that they also have "Budweg" calipers for the front for £79.76p each side. The small photo shows something that looks just like the standard-fit Porsche (Brembo) caliper and a google search has found Lotus, Toyota and BMW forums who have good things to say about the brand. Has anyone come across them? They seem very, very cheap - almost concerningly cheap. It appears that the price (which includes VAT) may be an exchange price, but even if this is the case that is still an exceptional price for a rebuild.

I notice that they also have "Budweg" caliper pistons for between £12 and £15 each. And the picture appears to show the earlier, mushroom-shaped pistons, which I happen to know are £40 + vat from an OPC. (How do I happen to know this? Because I had to replace a scuffed one in a rear caliper a couple of years ago, and even the chap in the parts department in OPC Stratford agreed that nigh on £50 for a caliper piston was steep.)

So, over to you chaps - are Budweg calipers and pistons any good? Has anyone tried them? Are they the rollicking bargain they appear to be?

Link to the relevant page is here: http://brakeparts.co.uk/#!/shop/PORSCHE/944/89-91/944%20S2%203.0%20exc%20TURBO/Front%20-%20Brake%20Calipers%20and%20Wheel%20cylinders . Interestingly, while their pads and calipers are delightfully [strike]cheap[/strike] good value, their brake disks are a fair bit more expensive than those from Carparts4less (i.e. ECP).

Oli.

P.S. That site seems to be run by 'Brakes International' and I have no affiliation, just a happy previous customer etc etc etc.

Hi

Had a look at the 944S callipers, but it seems they are re manufacturer, and I presume the S2 will be the same, (I may be wrong), having said that it still seems a good buy.
