Guys - two unrelated queries but I would like to know;

A: if there is any way to determine the build of my 944
B: are the rear speakers the same size as the fronts? (6x4) as they are crackerly an need replacing . . .

Thanks for all your help in previous posts.

The model year can be established by the chassis number.

Although it is actually Beakys birthday tomorrow (1st registered 23/12/87) he is an '88 model according to the chassis number and specification.

If you do a long range search on the forum you should be able to bring up the method of determining the model year from the chassis number, otherwise I'll dig it out for you.

do you have the 10 speaker option?

It's no that I know, but I believe the std and 10-speaker packages were different in the rear....

Paul, were the RR speakers easy to replace? What make and model did you replace them with and did you take the rear quater glass out? Any guide you can supply would be great mate . . .

Speaker package option no.10? I have the following options -

C48 D80 150 429 526 533 650 990

I take it my speakers will be 6x4 in the back as well?

If you have the door pocket full of speakers in the front you have the 10 speaker pack and in that the rear is different; 6" round I believe. In a car without that pack it's 6x4's all round. There is limited depth in the front, but the rear is easier for space. You are supposed to take out the quarterlight to get the rear panel off but I managed a speaker swap without on my S2 coupe years ago.

The model year of your car can be found from the 10th digit of the VIN number. This will range from C (1982) to M (1991). For clues to an exact build date, pull out the cubby underneath the stereo, it will have a date and year stamped on it.

It can, but you need to know the format of the VIN number in order to establish which letter you are looking at. As I said earlier, it's in the forum somewhere. [;)]

That will tell you when the cubby was made. Possibly a few years before the car was assembled! (although more than likely a few months). The German standard (in fact now a general plastics standard) is to have the DIN wheel in all plastic parts where it will fit.

If you want the exact time and date, I think (and I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong) the PCGB will do the legwork through the Porsche files and tell you exactly what you want to know. It costs of course......
