Build sticker.....

Chaps... I've just got my 987 back from having a bit of bonnet damge repaired and the OPC says that it's got a new bonnet. Loading my bag into it this morning I noticed that there isn't a build sticker on the inside of the lid which I remember there being on my old 986.

Question - should the build sticker be there on a 987?

In the US the 987 is being sent to the dealer with just 1 sticker, which is usually put in the maintenance booklet. The 986 came with 2 stickers, and 1 was usually put under the lid.

Coming from a 944 and knowing the critical sticker being on the rear panel, then reading about the 986 critical sticker under the front boot/bonnet when looking at my approved 987S in April I found there was no sticker, suspecting the worst i took it up with salesman but on looking at several other Boxsters in the showroom none had a sticker under the front boot/bonnet. If my bonnet had been repaired/replaced in the 6 months prior to my ownership they did a fantastic job as all the bonnet stay bolts still have untouched paint on them and the paintwork appears original and boy have I looked.

I say don't worry unless there is obvious evidence of repair damage.

I did have a thought about the way the front edge of the bonnet/boot lid sits slightly below the mating face of the bumper but I walked around umpteen 987s at the recent Tipec show and most were exactly the same and came to the conclusion it was probably due to the manufacturing tolerances of the plastic bumper (again no evidence of bumper being repaired/replaced).

Cheers

Paul

The bonnet is supposed to lie slightly lower at the front than the bumper cover.
This is because you get wind noise generated if it is level.

Strange that when the 987/997 came out Porsche did away with the second sticker. Maybe that is why Porsche is making so much money these days....

Last year I happened to be at my local dealer after a 997 cab came off the delivery truck. Before anyone could touch the 997 I searched it. Could only find 1 sticker, and that was placed in the booklet.

Thanks guys - I'll stop worrying about it now!

Maybe if Porsche invested the saving of 0.00000002p per vehicle of not putting in the second sticker in a "return the customer's phone calls" training programme, I'd be a happier bunny.....
