All 987s are made in Finland
The Chassis Number can be broken down very easily
First 3 Characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI) and for Porsche they are WP0
Next 5 Characters are body style - For Porsche they also use the 12th character as well .. Character 4, 5, 6 are ZZZ for RoW car (4th is USA code for body, 5th is USA code for engine type, 5th is USA code for restraint system)
Charcter 7, 8 and 12 make the Porsche model number in your case these will make 98 and 7 ie its a 987
Character 9 is a check digit ... like a checksum
Character 10 is Model Year - 1971 was a 1, 1980 was a A, 2001 was a 1 again and we go back to a A in 2010
Charcter 11 is production plant - S = Stuttgart, L = Leipzig, U=Uusikaupunki
Character 13 to 17 is your unique vehicle serial number
