Buing a used 987

Hey. I am about to buy a used 2.7 (987) Boxster.
Actually i'm from Greece and a friend of mine is going to import it for me.
Any advices so as to check it properly?
 
If you buy a 987 from an official Porsche dealer, you should have no issues with the history, provenance and standard of preparation of the car.

If buying privately, ensure all the usual used car checks are carried out - finance situation, validity of ownership etc. The car itself should be perfect and as it would be so new, still under manufacturers warranty. There are a lot on sale in the UK at the moment so don't settle for anything less than exactly what you want.
 
Buy it from Continental Europe... They're much cheaper! And you'll get the steering wheel @ the right place!

I finally placed an order for a used 987 , which will be imported from Germany.
The dealer gave me the chassis number , and told me that the car has 6000 km.
How can i check car's history using this number , and how can i see if it is made in Germany or not , using this number?
 
A Porsche importer could check the history from chassis nbr

The chassis nbr tells you the model year and place of assembly eg
WPOZZZ98ZYS601591
year (10th character , Y means 2000, then 1,2,3 etc)
S for Stuttgart (11th character)
U for Finland
 
So i will try with the local dealer.
And another question how often are the service intervals? I mean how often do i have to change the oil and spark plugs?

All 987s are made in Finland

The Chassis Number can be broken down very easily

First 3 Characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI) and for Porsche they are WP0

Next 5 Characters are body style - For Porsche they also use the 12th character as well .. Character 4, 5, 6 are ZZZ for RoW car (4th is USA code for body, 5th is USA code for engine type, 5th is USA code for restraint system)

Charcter 7, 8 and 12 make the Porsche model number in your case these will make 98 and 7 ie its a 987

Character 9 is a check digit ... like a checksum

Character 10 is Model Year - 1971 was a 1, 1980 was a A, 2001 was a 1 again and we go back to a A in 2010

Charcter 11 is production plant - S = Stuttgart, L = Leipzig, U=Uusikaupunki

Character 13 to 17 is your unique vehicle serial number

I stand corrected then .. some must be made in Stuttgart (Zuffenhausen) . I thought they had moved all 987 to Finland and Stuttgart only did 911's now

Are they really that much cheaper? By the time you spec it up to C16 (UK Spec) am not sure whether there is much in it now but would like to know? I imported a little family car through a broker nearly 6 years ago and saved a considerable amount on the UK list price but of course it will be worth less when we come to sell it but as we'll run it into the ground (kids have learnt to drive on it and done nearly 70,000 miles) it doesn't matter. All cars through this car broker are now UK sourced and you can't get the savings on the same mnfr as you could 6 years ago.

In 98 there was a Dutch independent Porsche specialist selling new cars (UK spec) to order but can't find them now.

Would be interested if savings can still be made. A basic 997 even in LHD (non C16) would be interesting to price up.
