Bullet Camera's...

Seeing as my first post on this subject was deleted for being a "duplicate post", I have copies the text from the other posts on the GT3 and 993RS forum (identical, but not deleted yet) and offer the opportunity to all my fellow RS owners:

>>>>>>>>>

I am about to receive a nice new bullet camera to fix into my RS to record my on and off road (track) activity and have found a supplier that is keen to offer a good discount on their product range if we can get a group buy organised.

Their product range can be found in their online shop on their website:

http://www.fastfilms.co.uk/

I know a lot of you attend track days and perhaps would be interested in recording your footage from the day.

If you could reply to the thread on the 964RS forum with your interest I will have a chat with the guys at Fast Films and see what deals we can put together.

By the way I have gone for a 520 Line Bullet Camera Kit with a 2.9mm wide angle lens and a rollcage mount as well as a suction mount for external recording. I will record my footage onto my Archos AV420 Personal Recorder.

If you have any questions about the kit or how it works just ask.

Cheers

Ollie

I recently ordered a superclamp and mounting kit for my Mini DV camcorder from http://www.b-hague.co.uk to attach to the roll cage in my RS. I'm hoping to try it out at the PCGB Castle Combe track day this coming Saturday. If it works well, I might be interested in adding a bullet camera to get different shots and angles.

Does the bullet camera need an external power source?

Hi Tim

Have a great day at Castle Coombe, you will get some great footage...

The bullet camera requires a power source and the kits come with a battery pack that takes 8 AA batteries and gives roughly 10 hours of power to the camera. The kit also comes with a microphone which also draws off this power pack.

I thought about clamping my camcorder to the cage but decided to use the bullet camera as I don't fancy a 1kg lump of metal flying around the cabin if it came loose.

Cheers

Ollie

Thanks Ollie

The thought of the camcorder flying through the cockpit at 100mph is a bit worrying! The kit I've purchased has a suction mount too, so you are supposed to be able to mount the camera on the windscreen or even externally. I don't think I'll be allowed to on the track day though!

Cheers
Tim

Hi Tim and Ollie,

It's David here from Fast Films :)

I'm actually in the process of adding a page to the site wth various guidelines and rules for racing and trackdays, with regard to what is and isn't allowed. In my experience suction mounts are allowed on many tracks, providing 1. You show the Marshalls before you go out on track, and you mention the subject at sign on. 2. The camera isn't mounted in front of the driver or on the front passenger window and most importantly 3. The camera is securely tethered in the event it should fall off or you have an accident.

p.s, we sell the kit you bought from B Hague too ;)

Cheers, Dave

Hi Charles

I am putting a kit together with Dave to offer to all PCGB members, but whilst we are doing this he has kindly offered a 10% discount on all of their equipment (mounts/cameras etc) until the end of April 2006, so if you all want something different you can buy it at a discount.

Details of the kit are not finalised, but I am trying to get a good price on a 520 line bullet camera kit (with mic/battery pack/cables), a suction cup mount and a rollcage mount.

This is what I have and I can vouch for the picture quality, although the wife is not too pleased and wished I'd asked her first [;)]

Hi all,

I have added a 10% discount code to the shop, so having chosen the items you want, you will find a screen asking for a discount code (before the payment screen).
Simply type in ' pcgb ' and it wil take off 10% before adding VAT and carriage.

I will hold this open until the end of April and see how it goes.

Charles - The mount you have chosen is one of the best selling ones we have (almost identical to the BHague one, only ours has an extra joint), however, it has its limitations. The rubber base is quite rigid, making it difficult to get it to stick on a curved surface, even harder when cold. Many people swear by them of course.
Personally, I prefer to use the mounts with multiple smaller suckers, it also gives me a slightly greater peace of mind that if one sucker should lose grip, there are still more left holding on.
Cheers Dave :)
