Hi steve, how easy is it to remove the standard bumper to get in and clean infront of the radiators? Dam these man hands of mine[:D]

Hi Chris,

Not too bad at all, the fidliest screw is the one behind the inner arch liner that hold the top corner of each side of the bumper on.

My rads etc are all new (well less than a year old) so there wasn't much junk in them.

Some pics as usual:

Nice job Steve. It is crying out for a nice rear spoiler now!

Chris - There is also a DIY in our 996 Technical Articles section you might want to check out.

Thanks :)

I thought the colour match from the body shop was pretty good, in some light it looked a little brighter I think, but after taking it down the road and taking some more snaps and going around it from a lot of angles I think it looks fine. He only finished baking the bumper this morning and I picked it up and could still smell the paint! So it needs some time to finish curing and no doubt it will dull down a little and blend in.

Cheers,

P.S yes, I agree, without a spoiler it looks a bit 'front heavy'. I keep the rear spoiler up at the moment, but the blasted problem is when I go over 35 and drop below it goes down :)

I really like the factory active spoiler, and it seems a shame to bin it, but I think it does need something there.

Looking nice....and in the best colour....but then I would say that ;)

Where did you get the bumper from out of interest?

looks like someone's already cut the diy drain section out of the air duct, could be a bit bigger though, just to make sure all the water and grit don't collect in corner, good mod.

Thanks uk_sub, I got it from a chap off of 911.uk.com. Bit of a bargain too at £400 for an original :)

Slick0007, it is indeed! I don't have an ebay account though so used someone elses :) I've gone past the point of collecting old car parts now - just take up room.

Bob, that's a good shout! Glad it had already been done otherwise I would have wanted to remove them and do it again. It could have been Northway, they replaced the rads etc last summer.

Anyone think this will look any good?

I'm still strugling to work out what spoiler would look best, I've seen a few, and would rather a more subtle one that the gt3 style one, or should I keep it factory and get a gt3 style one?

Cheers,

Are you going to buy and fit the front splitter (part number 996 505 986 00 I think)?
That's the part that grounds out on mine when I encounter any sort of slope (due to the -20mm)...

If you do decide to try it, check the price at your OPC.....that's where I got mine and it was cheaper than anywhere else...

I'll be in Devizes on Saturday so will keep my eyes peeled for my car's cousin ;)

I'm not sure tbh - need to work out what happening with the wing. I sent the seller a message but no response yet.

I think with the lower splitter I may well have issues with normal driving conditions and getting in and out of the drive etc.

I know Devizes well, went there a lot in my teenage years, I shall be out and about in her at the weekend :)
