What do you want to protect it from? I removed the rad on mine back in the autumn to give it a clean (back flushed it & left it to soak overnight in soapy water, then gently sprayed a mist from the hose across it to get 18 years of dead flies & dandilion seeds out) & the biggest thing it had stuck in it was a wasp [:D]

The radiator inlet on the front of a 944 is much smaller than on most cars for two important aerodynamic reasons: Firstly the smaller the hole in the front of the car the better the car cuts through the air, secondly the air that does get through the gap enters a large chamber behind the bumper (ahead of the rad) which allows the relatively small amount of air to expand & cool before it reaches the radiator fins which aids cooling at the sustained high speeds the car was designed to do.

Putting a grille over the holes will decrease the effective size of the already small hole & potentially add turbulence which would be detrimental to what is already imo a marginal cooling system. Personally I wouldn't do it unless I felt the rad was in imminent danger of being punctured by debris (eg if I was going to rally it) & if I did I'd enlarge the hole enough to both compensate for the added restriction of the mesh pattern & the lost expansion cooling effect.

If you think it'd look good or give worthwhile protection go for it but keep an eye on your temp gauge imo.

No from me too. If you think the rad on the 944 is exposed, think about the 996 - I get all sorts of cr@p out of the bumper when I clean around mine - and usually cut my hand to ribbons at the same time. Not the greatest design. 944's is ok though.

Please don't do it. Your radiator doesn't need the extra protection and in anycase it is more likely that damage is caused by fast moving small objects than large objects which are more likely to make their way through the holes in the mesh. If the mesh is closed more then it will limit the airflow to the radiator.

If you had an S2/Turbo front you could go for this solution - which I rather like not sure where you would put your number plate though.
