Burning Oil

I have a 96 993 Targa. Only 35K and has been services every year without fail at a OPC. I've noticed recently that when starting from cold (out of my garage after a day or weeks) that I get quite a big puff of smoke. The car is parked on flat ground too! I know that they do burn oil but it just seems more than normal. Any advice?

Most 911's have condensation smoke upon start up: nothing to worry about.

HOWEVER: quick rule of thumb: blue smoke appearing when you were accelerating and suddenly you lifted off:: valve guides on the way out, smoke appearing upon acceleration: rings.

Her smoke is ummm probably a little tantrum urging you to blow the cobwebs out [;)]

The white puff is also more common if the car is put away without being fully up to temperature (i.e. after a short run in the cold) which is why you tend to see it more at this time of year.

Probably the usual cam cover leak. It is usually very slight but can drip onto the heat exchangers and when the engine is hot from a fast run it burns off in a slight smoke haze.

Just had this issue sorted on my car (C4S with Turbo conversion). Was smoking very intermittently as oil burned off whatever it was dripping onto. Was indeed the cam cover on LHS (as John suggests). Not sure what the cost was as fixed under warranty from the dealer, but not major I shouldn't think.

Would just take some oil if you're planning a long run, and check the level a bit more often than usual.
