bushes on a 951

just in the process of replacing all the arb bushes with powerflex and fitting 968 castor mounts, but have a few issues....

1. can't get the outer arb bushes into the drop link? (any tips? tried putting one in the freezer but still too tight?)
2. the inner arb bushes look too large and i'm worried they will nip once i tighten the brackets? (see photo)

3. one of my old castor mounts looks twisted (one on the left) and the bolt isnt going in straight (could this have been done to get the geometry correct?)
4. the positioning of the castor mount centre is different on the 968 mounts (have read a few other posts and assume i will need it professionally set up once fitted?)

Hi Matt,

Try a smear of washing up liquid to ease the bushing onto your ARB.
The different center position of the castor mount is what helps reduce the tramlining of a 944 with 17" rims fitted.

washing up liquid isnt making much difference, had three mates (stronger than me) trying but no joy

have i missed something here, several people said it is really easy to fit the arb bushes?
 
Don't use washing up liquid, it contains salt and will cause corrosion making it difficult to remove the bushes next time. Use Vaseline Powerflex bushes are petroleum resistant so this is a safe lubricant to use

Hi Matt,

Try using a long bolt, nut and some large washers. Set it up so as you scrw up the nut it compresses the bush into the bracket. You need the bolt to be sizes to be as close to the internal dia of the bush to prevent the whole thing buckling and use plenty of lubrication. Oh, and make sure the bolt has enough length of thread to pull the bush all the way into the bracket. This method has worked for me in the past.
 
I used a work mate type bench to do mine, but any vice type device should do it. place the bush against the end of the braket, keep them square and wind it up. It looks like it won't work, and you might get worried as it squeezes through but will pop out the other end and it is the easiest and best way. Very quick and simple and saves any damage from trying to pry with screwdrivers etc.
