Buy it, then sell it a week later mystery.

Just been having a look (dreaming) on the Porsche site approved used cars, 997's, of which there are currently around 50, most of them with hardly any miles at all.

Who is it that's buying these cars and then offloading them to the OPCs so soon after purchase? [&:]

Any commercially minded members out there solve this mystery?

People hoping to make money from the waiting list issue? In other words ordering a car and then selling it to someone who isn't prepared to wait for one.

Porsche are now volume producers and they probably pre-register cars like the other big manufacturers. Each month PCGB have a closed sale/auction for OPCs to buy stock, including ex-management cars, demonstrators, cancelled orders etc.

I was talking to an accountant last week, who seemed very knowledgeable about the automotive industry, and he felt that the whole market was getting saturated with too many prestige vehicles, to the extent that used prices of nearly new cars would be hardest hit. And, IHO, Porsche, in particular, were over-supplying new models, which would inevitably lead to disappointing residuals on the 997.

OPC's dealer managers cars, demos, loan cars, basically unsold new 997's being bounced back onto the market with a few miles on and few quid off [:D]

Most obvious supply is from pre-registered cars for demo and other OPC business.

However, I don't know if it's true, but I was told some companies may do this.
I don't know the details, but I guess the company buys one for some exec, does not pay the VAT on it, then sells it quickly and makes a profit, since even with depreciation it is worth more than the VAT free price. This might be complete cobblers, but even if true I would guess the Revenue people would have limit on it.

Could also be some really unlucky individuals whose financial circumstances have changed since they placed the order; OPCs have nothing to lose and their deposit to keep.

excellent guys, mystery solved!

Still no real bargains going though.[&o]

Mind you, if I just hang on a year or two...:p
