Buying a 356 for restoration

Hi Guys,
Am not normally on your patch as am a Boxster S owner.
But I have an opportunity to buy a 356 c coupe complete but needs restoration.
The engine is complete and has been restored and the body had been restored painted in White.
It only has the main windshield missing, but the wiring is 6v.
Am not sure whether the price of £15k is good or not!

Well it depends if you like/love the 356 enough to own and perhaps restore one. I own one and just love my car.

The 356 was factory delivered 6 volt. Some people have converted to 12volt but mine still runs on 6volt no probs.

The forum is a great place for tech advice and banter but I would not put too much re the car on the forum otherwise you could find it disappears from under your nose.[&o]

If you wish pm me.

In answer to your question £15,000 is not a lot of money for a 356C independent of condition or LHD/RHD.

C's can have 6v or 12v electrics.

A restoration can be long and expensive , if you are good at welding then probably less expensive . The devil is in the detail so you need to aim at maintaining originality and you will need to research what is involved. An alternative approach is to go 'outlaw'.........see porsche356registry.org and DDK websites for other people's restoration experiences .

Well thanks guys for the info!
I have thought about it and it really seems a great project and the price is £12k not £15k,am sorry got the price wrong!
The Car was partially restored 8-9 years ago,the engine looks in excellent condition totally restored but I am no expert on these so could be some bits.
The car was imported from California, and went to Germany all taxes and duties paid.
The only part missing is the front screen!
I am reluctantly not going to purchase as not really my forte!
Have the funds but unfortunately not the time!
But am willing to pass the details on and if purchased you can buy me a
drink at the meet Classics at the Castle.
The car is located in Chatham,Kent.
I think it looks a good opportunity, please pm email
Regards Dave.
