Buying a 944 turbo

Guest

New member
Hello

I'm new to Porsches (as in I havent yet got one)

I have decided that the car I want is a 944 turbo but really dont know a lot else.

I've had a scout around on the net but really want owners opinions.

I am especially interested in tuning them, reliability and common faults and the sort of running costs I will encounter.

Anyinfo really would be great.

Thanks

J

Prob the best thing to do is to have a good search on this forum. Prob most things about the car have been covered at some point.

Same old same old, buy the best one you can afford. You can get ones for silly cheap money theses days but i think you still have to pay £10k+ to get a good one.

So far i have spend £3500 on mine since Jan, but its now in exeptional condidtion. And its not too slow either )

Thanks so far- Keep em coming..

I am looking at spending up to 8 k I think but to be honest (thanks for the emails guys) it will be closer to the end of the year as I am finishing my track car off and selling that first.

Looking in Porsche world that will get me an older S2turbo maybe an SE even....

If milage is not so important what sort of milages do these engines do and what sort of prices are requilds?

Do you know what turbo they run as standard?

Shings,

Don't get confused by the model types. An S2 is a 3 litre non turbo. There are two types of Turbo, both are 2.5 litres. The 85-87 are 220bhp using a KKK 26/6 turbocharger. 87 onwards are 250bhp using a KKK 26/8 turbocharger. Some people refer to the 250's as S or SE

The engine is generally regarded as being good for 200,000 miles if serviced properly. The only person I know of who has had a rebuild was Andrew above who had his rebuilt at 180,000 (I think) into a 2.8 litre 422 bhp monster. Look at the Hartech website for a good guide on rebuild costs

Lovely Example of a 944 Turbo available for sale at Strasse in Leeds, i will try and post you the link.

There is also a 944S2 which is immaculate and more closer to the price you were wanting to pay.
