Buying a 997 - any pointers?

Hi all,

My Cayman has now sold, I'm looking for a 997 Carrera Cabriolet. I've got the OPC looking for one for me, but matching my requirements within my budget is a bit of a task at the minute!

However, I've found one for sale at an independant trader that looks good on the pictures. I'm going to look at the weekend, was wondering if there is anything I should watch out for?

I'm looking at relatively high milers (40-60k) - any problems relating to mileage?

So, other than tyres, breaks, servicing, documentation, number of owners, crash damage, RMS leakage, bolster wear, anything else I should look for?

Finally - how do I go about getting a Porsche Warranty if buying privately please?

Thanks!

Paul.

Not much else to look for! Oil pressure should be nailed to the 5 at anything above 2k rpm and water should be nailed to the 80.
Take it to a PC and pay for a 111 point check and if it passes you can buy the warranty I believe. But I'm sure the PC that is looking for you would be happy to confirm that. Happy hunting.

You need to wait 90 days before you can enter the Porsche warranty if buying from and Independant dealer... but as Alan says, have it put through the 111 point inspection for peace of mind.

I guess you already considered Boxster S / Spyder as rear seats in the cab are even more compromised than in the coupe ?

Hi Oggy,

Yeah, I've had a Boxster previously but we've got a baby on the way. The backseats will only be used for the little person, so don't think the cab or coupe matters too much at this stage [:)]

We missed the convertible aspect of the boxster though, hence the 911 cab being the next choice. :)

CONGRATULATIONS [:)][:)]

When buying my first 997 (C2S Coupe) convinced my better half on the fact we could put the nippers in the back (unlike the Boxsters I had owned previous). But to be honest, never quite worked out that way as could never really find the right seat and even now they are 5 & 7 yrs (and only require a booster seat), their faces are too close to back of the front seats for my liking. Hence, never normally take the kids out in mine.

I heard of some people removing the back-rests (of the rear seats) in order to create more space however not sure you can even do this in a cab ?

Anyway, irrespective of all this, will be great car and brilliant fun to drive !! I really miss not having an open top on beautiful summer days. However, living in the North West, we don't get too many of those to worry about[:D]
