Buying advice for a Boxster

Does anyone know where I could get hold of a good buying guide for Boxsters or have any general advice on what to look out for? Are there any know problems/issues that I should be aware of when looking?

Also, am I right in thinking their were revisions to the Boxster a couple of years ago?

Thanks

There is an excellent buyers guide available from Club Shop.
Written by Peter Morgan it's a handy A5 size booklet that tells you pretty much everything you need to know.
There is also a companion DVD that goes with it.

There are revisions almost every year one way or another on the whole Porsche range, but I suspect you mean the restyling from 986 to 987 - it makes the car a bit less curvy and has a different interior to the previous years.

I think you're underplaying the improvements somewhat! The 987 is practically a new car - and in my view, better in absolutely every respect (except for the change from metal interior door handles to plastic).

As the OP was evidently only vaguely aware there was a change, I was just trying to help him tell the difference [:D]

Good point.. I was just checking that you weren't being some 986 luddite... bye eck lad, it were reet better in my day....!! [:D]

911 and Porsche World did a fairly basic buyers' guide several months ago. If you search their website you may be able to get a copy. Still enjoy watching the tape of Tiff Needle doing his first Boxster test drive on BBC Top Gear - must have been '97.

Its not entirely Boxster related but this might be worth a look....

As to the models - the 986 series ran from 97 to '04 - there were minor revisions to engines and controls through the life, but a slight facelift in Sept 02 gave clear indicators, revised bumpers, revised side air vents, a glovebox ! and slight increases in power (228bhp for 2.7, 255bhp for 3.2S)

The 987 series came out Nov 04 and is the current model, and is a completely revised car, albeit to the man in the street not hugely different to look at.
