Hi,

I have been offered a 993 C4 (Registered March 1995(M) with full history 1 owner from new and some options (A/C Cruise & on-board computer) she is finished in black metallic with dark grey interior and looks and drives great, It has 112K miles and appears to be faultless the trader concerned has offered me £12,750 for my 91 964 tip against his price of £23,995 but the vehicle come without a warranty unless I purchase one, he is happy to have it checked by an independent Porsche specialist obviously my intention!![:D]

I would like peoples opinions pls regardless of being good or bad along with any points of interest or importants and a good on-line warranty company if possible.

Thanks in advance

Pete,

I personally think that just shy of £24k is quite steep for a '95 (non varioram ?) car with 112k on the clock especially since there's no warranty involved.

The fact that's it's only had one owner is neither here nor they so that shouldn't factor into the price.

The mileage would put me off, though there are plenty of people who will tell you that providing it has been looked after the mileage shouldn't matter (it will effect the price though).

Just had a look on 911Virgin & they have a '94 M-reg tip for sale at just under £20k - don't know the mileage & it does need work.

Shirleys Garage have a 95 Carrera 2 tip with 82k miles for £23k

Plus we're heading into winter & I've been told that cars are always a bit cheaper during the winter months.

See what comments others have but I feel that the car's about £3-4k overpriced, though you've got to factor in what your car's worth part ex. though at £12,750 I doubt he's offering top book.

With just one owner, I'd get hold of their name / address and phone them up for a discussion. Then get the independent inspection. Re the mileage, I'd ask whether it's all occassional long motorway journeys or a daily commute to work.

There's a red 993 for sale elsewhere on this forum under "For Sale" I happen to know the the car and the owner and it is real stunner...the car that is.The owner is one of the most fastidious people I know.

Not sure about px though

Hi,

Thanks for the advice have spoken to the previous owner and all checks out fine with regard to price and milage this dealer is giving me a good px price for my 964 compared to others (911 virgin etc) and the car needs no work also I want a 4 & not a 2 so the deal is on subject to my inspection report not sure as about the warrenty is it worth it if everythig checks out?

Pete

and of course it depends on how satisfied you are with the trader on price (?)

on normal 17" wheels ?

yes all standard bits along with some extra's a/c, onboard computer & cruise traders price 23,995 my px 12,750 he is also covering all costs if required after pre-inspection which is being done at my choice of dealer and he is transporting it there to so I am very happy still not sure about the warranty tho??

Warrenty is a tricky one. I would hate to tell you not to bother and then the engine falls out a week later. It depends how comfortable you are with the car after the inspection report and do you need the insurance against a major failure?

Any warrenty you are offered should be looked at in fine detail. They tend to exclude an awful lot under the 'consumables' category and some have low claim limits. Also will they cover you when 3 months after buying the car the one hidden thing the dealer forgot to mention needs attention?

First 993 I bought had a 3 month personal warranty against the dealer (ie no limit and he paid out of his own pocket) which made me feel very comfortable against the major hidden problem scenario. Every other 911 I have bought subsequently were bought without warranties because I knew a lot more about the cars and felt I could guage if they were solid or not plus fully understand the implications of the inspection report. Also I made sure when purchasing that I budgeted in the price the things I could not determine had been sorted by previous owners (eg if there is no record of new dampers in the late 20K miles budget to have them replaced even if the inspection report says they are OK). Touch wood I have been OK so far (tempting fate here).

Hope that helps but at the end of the day it's a personal thing.

Ian.

I had a warranty to start off and then extended it, just in case the engine or gearbox "disaster scenario" happened. This actually worked well because it covered a number of odds and sods that offset (and completely covered one year) the cost of the warranty.

As Ian says above though, as time goes on / mileage increases, they tend to exclude an awful lot and this was what stopped me extending the warranty again.

It's a tricky decision for you - I liked the peace of mind.

Sorry this is my first ever forum, hope I'm doing this as expected.I am looking for a 993 but the budget is tight and as ever I want the world, ie RHD,manual Silver or a respectable colour, the car you mentioned at Shirleys is Aventura Green not too cool.
I have seen at a very competatively priced Q plate 993 stolen recovered.Any views
Keith
