Buying advice

Hello all!
I've recently joined this forum as I'm currently looking for a good 3.2 S Boxster for around £24,000 for daily use (will prob do about 12k per year) and have a couple of questions about spec:

Specifically, I want to know whether it's best to stick with the manual box or tiptronic, and whether PSM is worthwhile option and what affect these 2 options have on future resale. Also, is there a big difference between the solid black and metallic black?

Other than deciding on these options I know what I want "" black metallic, black leather, and big shiny wheels! I will be upgrading all the lights (essential if you ask me!) and changing the wheels to 18" or 19", either the newer 996 Carreras or 2 piece RSCs "" will prob get it lowered as well while I'm at it, and may put an aero kit on it or a 996 turbo front bumper.

Any other things I should be considering, then please shout out!

Thanks,

J8KEYBOY

I'd go for a manual personally but if you live in London or get stuck in lots of traffic jams I can see Tip being useful. PSM is defo worthwhile IMO. Probably no if little difference in resale value though.

Note that the suspension setup was designed for 17" wheels and 18" wheels will affect ride quality. Don't know if the car will take 19" wheels, due to additional loads on suspension and clearances etc. Lowering will also affect ride quality and I wouldn't bother unless you fit Porsche's own sports suspension. And even then I wouldn't bother unless you plan to do lots of track days or are trying to chav up your Boxster with wikkid 19" wheels and slam it.

derek

at that money it is not going to be That new anyway (TBH) so definately go on history and how the car looks and feels rather than the newest lowest mileage i would say-at 10k you may well get a facelift 986 but beyond that buy on condition-is what ive always been told ,for an older car(which is what i did!![:D])

good luck

ps one on sale in for sale section curently

I agree with Dyllan - better to go for a good history. Any extra (heated seats, climate control, multi-chnage cd, etc.) will add to the price.

One thing I've been told to make sure, is that on the inside of the front boot lid there should be a sticker that corresponds with one in the reg documents - if that's missing, the car is likely to have had front end damage.

Enjoy - I certainly have

i'd buy on condition and mileage followed by a check.
that's what i did [:D]
i wouldn't worry about extras as nearly all can be added after from another donor car( wheels/seats/sound even a new roof)
get the basics right first dont fret over a cd changer

once you find something that fits the bill then do a service check etc. ring the dealer give them the reg is a good idea.

when everything looked ok with mine i then took it to a specialist/dealer to check before handing over my cash. if the seller wont let you do this then listen to the alarm bells in your ears and run a mile

Thanks everyone for the advice, would you advise maybe add a little to my budget and buy a facelift 986, are they much better than an early car?
Thanks
Derek
