Buying my first Porsche! Help

Personally, I'd look at the private sale one first. A year newer, less miles, and £2000 cheaper. Get a proper inspection done and spend some of the cash saved on a decent warranty if it makes you feel more comfortable. OK, the dealer one has carbon (and silver dials), but that wouldn't worry me as I'm not a fan of carbon. Just my 2p's worth.

Hi Guys

Im currently away to buy a 996 turbo have been looking through all the sites, pistonheads etc and have finally narrowed it down to the final 2. The first one is:- http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1146897.htm and the one that i think im going for is http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1294401.htm. This will be my first porsche and i really dont know an aweful lot about them or what to look for. My main points were i wanted it to be black and manual. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Aaron

Cheers for the info. I was thinking the same although the other one has actually turned out to be 2000 cheaper with a bit of bargining. In regards to warranty have you had much problems with your turbo? DO they go wrong much? Cheers Aaron

I would go for the private one also. Looks nicer, newer, cheaper and as mentioned before use the savings on a warranty! Good Luck..............

I thought that perhaps you were leaning towards the dealer car as you would get a warranty. I would imagine the car at the dealers has been chipped - hence the upgraded intercoolers. The private one looks (on the face of it) to be a nicely cared for unmolested example. As I said, it's also newer and a few thousand miles less on the clock, but if the dealer one ticks more boxes...... The most important things to consider are condition and service history, and a wad of receipts for things like brakes, aircon condensers, etc, is worth a lot. Have I had problems with mine? Nothing serious, and generally 996 Turbos are pretty bullet proof. That hasn't stopped me spending money though. Take a look at my running reports. IMO there is no other sports car with the qualities of the 996TT that you could use every day. Running costs are a bit higher than a 996 Carrera, mainly fuel, tyres and servicing, but the extra horsepower is worth every penny. [;)] (Again, IMO). Whichever you go for, I would still suggest getting an inspection done unless you are an experienced Porsche buyer. It could save you making an expensive mistake.

welcome, this is my first porsche as well, cant believe that we did not get one years ago, you wont be upset getting a 996TT, TRUST ME[8D]

can i make one small point, spend the money and get 2 or 3 HPI checks because they are NOT all the same. I got an HPI done on my gt3 and came back with insurance cat c, and another HPI said it was all fine, I spend about £80 on hpi checks. The true story was a plate used on the gt3 2 years ago was written off on by the insurance but was registred to a range rover sport not the porsche, so the hpi was pulling dead info from the plate. Also some showed finance was outstanding and some didnt even pick it up, again after research the company forgot to remove the note, true it helped to get the car for a superb deal but just shows how much HPI checks change!
