Buying new S2...and what's mine worth?

I have an opportunity to upgrade to an S2. Car has done 110,000 miles, had head reskimmed (due to HG failure-was crack tested), new brakes well maintained etc etc. Know the guy and it is a very nice car. What sort of value would you guys put on it? £6k?

Also, what should I ask for mine? 2.7 lux, 2 owners from new, fsh up to two years ago then reciepts for everything I have done myself plus belts,tensioners, water pump nov 04. On S2 alloys, in very good condition (no tears in seats, interior spotless, body work with no rust but obvious stone chips), 133,000 miles. I was thinking £3,750 based on others like it for sale?

Need more info on the S2; it's strong money if not all the money for one at £6k, so for that it needs to be nice and in a good colour with proper recent history including cams being checked or better, replaced. Leather and air-con would help also.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]In terms of your car I think £3,750 is all the money, so unless it's absolutely exceptional (which from your description with stone chips and self-serviced it isn't) I think that's maybe as much as £1,000 optimistic.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
 
The car is grey metallic, half leather (no aircon), will ask about cams. Also has ss exhaust, chip, strut brace. I did wonder if it was 'strong money' for it. I'll have to see.

Re mine, it only has chips on valance and door mirrors, the rest is really very good! I accept what you say though about the price. The servicing I have done two and have the reciepts for all the parts. The belts and water pump were done by g-force. Might wait for a little more sunshine too...
 
I don't mean to suggest yours isn't good, but with even Turbos changing hands for £2,500 I think £2,995 is a good starting point for a nice 2.7, look to get £2,750.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]Other will have opinions too, of course.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
 
I'm reluctantly approaching the sale of my S2 - 116k miles, full Porsche+specialist service history, new disks+pads+caliper service all round, belts changed in 2004 at 102k miles. I was hoping to get £5500 for it and that's the value I'd put on your friends car as it sounds similar.




 
Yes it sounds and look very similar. many thanks for that...just depends if he will accept, he would like 7k!!! But says he will accepot an offer over 6k. Don't think he'll be too happy with me offering 5500 but I can just walk away and still enjoy mine (or look at others...not really fussed though as I do like mine but have alkways wanted an s2...)

Hmmmm...think if he is not interested at 5500 (or possibly lower) I might just sell mine in the spring and get one of the corker's that are still out there! Thanks for the advice...much appreciated!
 
Speaking as one who has just shelled out £5.5K for an eBay S2, 1992 (K), 135K miles.....

I convinced myself that this was a bit of a bargain as I was comparing it with an F plate 100K miler at a dealers for which they wanted £9000. I realise now that it wasn't a bargain, but it wasn't a rip off either - it was probably about right for a metallic paint, bridge spoiler job in reasonable nick. I reckon you do pay a bit of a premium for these late models, and maybe there's some value in having one which hasn't been bodykitted and modded.

Maybe.

There's also a lot of value in having one which you know has been looked after though. My advice would be to let your mate find out the hard way that his car is not worth £7K so you don't look like a tight b***er, and then make him an offer when he has worked out the realities of the situation.
 
I bought a pristine 2.7 lux last year for £3300 which I thought was a bargain. Looked at lots of sub £3k cars and most were a bit shoddy. If yours is a nice one I'd put it up for £3500 or so. Its not a turbo, fair enough, but its still a hell of a lot of car for that money! and not much to pay for an intro into Porsche ownership.
Compare that to what else you could buy for £3500. Not much.
Just a thought.
 
How much would you expect to pay for a good cab these days?
I paid 8k for mine with leather,aircon,history,cruise control which at the time i though was good.
 
The trouble with cars like these is that there is such a (relatively) small market that you can't be sure what they are worth. At the top end, some of the sellers are clearly a bit mental (eg, asking £20K for a concours cabrio), and at the bottom, some of the 'bargains' turn out to be more expensive to put right than the non-bargain items. It's not easy telling the good from the bad, and it might only take 5 minutes for your pukka motor to turn into a dodgy one worth half the value. I'd certainly pay £7K for your cab if it looks pristine and it's not a monster miler, if that helps. And I'm a tight b***er [:D]

doesnt that answer your own question?? if there is others in similar condition selling for that price then why sell lower

 
He said "for sale" That's a whole world different to "selling". I could stick my Turbo up at £25k and it would be the only one advertised with the mods it has. Doesn't mean it's worth £25k though, and it would never sell for that.

I think in the £7k-£8k range for a cab is fine, maybe more in another 6-8 weeks if the weather brightens up, but for that is has to be a good one without excessive wear to the hood as well as the usual S2 issues/cautions.
 
well anytime iv ever went to sell a car first thing i do is check the current market price to see what they are going for,see how my car compares against them then price it accordingly,,

never once looked through autotrader etc and thought ohh right il sell my car for nearly 25% cheaper than the rest and il bet most of us have looked at a cars and seen ones thats a lot cheaper than the rest and thought must be to good to be true/something dodgy here

people always want a deal and im sure if somebody goes to have a look at his car,genuinely is intrested and he drops his price then depending on how his car is then he will hopefully get a sale

you have a valid point but your method of getting it across is a bit extreme lol
