Buying Question - New Clutch

Morning All,

Nearly a newbie to Boxster ownership.

Have my eye on a 10 year old 44k mile S which looks very smart. Going to see it at the weekend.

But I'm no mechanic or expert. It's at a dealer and just had it's clutch replaced.

Should I be concerned that it needed a new clutch or pleased that it's just had a new one?

Cheers in advance!

Clutch mileage is obviously depenedent on the manner in which its used, but 60-70k miles seems the norm on the Boxster. However the car is 10 years old, so age related issues come into force. Provided the clutch has been changed correctly, and hopefully the RMS changed at the same time as its the ideal time to do it, then i'd consider it a good point from a buyers perspective.

i just looked at a 2000 s, done 73K and whilst driving it didnt always slip into gear straight away is this a sign clutch is on way out? look forward to response as will have bearing on whether i proceed in purchase or how i negioate the price. thanks

My recently aquired Boxster S (70k miles) also has a stiff gearlever action, but only when cold. It becomes beautiful and slick when warmed up. [:)]

Definitely worth checking the RMS as suggested in the earlier post (and IMS) has been done if the clutch has been out and replaced.
My 'S' has 60k on the clock and I've also had, infrequently, this problem with getting into gear (but only with first) and usually most annoyingly at the lights when you really need it....
I had the clutch out for an RMS and IMS fix and some other bits and specifically had the clutch checked at that point, it was in good condition and pulls strongly in all gears. It's on it's first clutch. I think as also noted earlier much can depend on the driving style/how the car has been used as to the wear on the clutch so some will go much earlier than the average and some much later.

So I've put it down to the gearbox warming up as the problem and also probably now and again driver error... (especially when you've just driven a 'normal' car where the clutch is not as heavy...)

Am not fully sure how you might go about checking the clutch is in 'good condition' from a test drive but checking it pulls away smoothly without slipping and watching the rev counter for sudden dip or increase might be signs. Also a lower/higher biting point than normal could be a sign.
