Hi all;
I'm looking to buy a second hand Cayenne;
not having purchased one of these beasts before, I wonder if any of you could give me some guidance on what to look out for with common issues, problems etc.
Looking at 04 /05 plate turbos at the moment.
Thanks

David

Interesting enough, I am looking for the same and asked the same question before.
See: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=418636&mpage=1&key=񦗰
I have seen some, have you?
Prices are going down, but very slowly and nothing private.
Cheers

Depending on spec going price seems to be around 19-20K

well, as I've just bought a turbo today for less than your lower price, with warranty etc, I think that 19K for an S is too much !

When I was stating that there wasn't many around, I meant turbo's.

Amazing how they have dropped off .It seems my Defender although newer is probably worth more .
Crazy really.Just goes to show what an anti car govt. can do to a market ,until recently, when they realised
what a mess we are in .Now they want us to take on credit to buy more. There must be a word to describe this.....................................

I agree ... its sad how the prices have gone, but thats life these days ... My V6 .. 3 years old .. is worth less that the my Porsche lease Balloon payment I have to find in 2 months time (which we took as WAY less than Porsche predictions from 3 years ago as we wanted a few K capital out of the car).. so will cost me money to sell ...

However I had considered a Audi RS6 Avant .. cancelled the order in Dec .. lost the 10 % deposit .. but spotted on PH's tonight a 6 month old RS6's sub 6K mileage .. 25K down on what would have been its purchase .. ouch...

Performance car market is in the "toilet"

hi gdavison,

just quick question as you have the V6 model, which is what i am after at the min.

have a r.rover 2003 td6 vogue at the min and fancy a change, put down to the little niggles you tend to get with them, had few problems here and there.

so is the V6 from your experiance a reliable car?
was hoping to buy a 2004-2005 model with less than 50k miles for around £14k ish.

what sort of spec is recommended, was thinking sat nav, phone, heated leather if poss,

is 20mpg on a motorway run realistic?

sorry for all the questions, just that everyone tends to have the 4.5 model.

Car is heading to 3 years old in April .. coming up to 40K miles on it
Had one set of Tyres.. needs a new set now (still legal and above the warning indicators), which I'll do at service in 1200 miles - so I'd say 20K a set is a reasonable target - All 4 seem to go together
Had front Brake disks replaced at 20K service and rears at 30K .. Porsche said they where "close to wear limits".. which many will tell you is a standard Porsche comment to get extra work [;)]

Failures
* The rear windscreen wash pipe came off the nozzle meaning the fluid would wash the rear window thru the rear high braking light
* One of the front headlight washers shot out of the bumper and has gone missing - I am guessing it froze and pressure simply shot it out [&:]
So would I say reliable .. yes very .. I've decided to keep it going at least a 4th year and see what happens with the world economy .. this is teh first time I have kept a car for > 3 year ever in my life

Has done 20.7mpg pretty much all its life (never reset the computer and that what it says) on Super Unleaded.. have seen 24 mpg on a real quiet motorway run of say 50-60 mph chug along

For Spec .. I'd say ..
Absolute needed : Air Suspension, Sat Nav and BOSE, Heated Front Seats, Park Assist, B-Xenon Headlamps (you will never get bored of watching them 'go around corners', Tiptronic (Manual was an option on the V6)
Really Nice to Haves : Full Leather, Light Comfort pack (gives you the heated steering wheel as well ), Cruise Control
Fun to Haves : Anything else :)

have fun

thx for reply,

just going to pick mine up today, ended up going for a 3.2 v6 04 reg in black.
lucky for me it did have all the spec you mentioned, sat nav, bose ,air suspension, heated leather, tiptronic on the steering wheel, front/rear/side parking sensors, prob more but cant think until i have play with it.
its done 60k miles with full porsche history and just had service and brake discs/pads replaced.
i dont even want to put down what i paid for it, would make most people ill who own one,
but ive now got to sell my range rover and ill be loosing alot on that over what i paid just over a year ago, so it all works out.

if i get 20mpg thats the same as the td6 r.rover i have, :)

nice reg plate, well suited

Tailor_mike - Enjoy the car .. Get Some Photos up as soon as you can [;)]

Re price - I think we all know.. its like Limbo .. "how low can you go" []

The Cayenne had a visit to Porsche for one of their Freebie Winter Check ups .. No Faults found .. I was amazed to see how clean the underside was .. I know we have had a lot of sleet / snow / rain lately but the underside was "sparkling".. No "Fluids stains" any where..[:)]

will be giving it a good clean on sunday, weather permitting. and get some decent pics to post.
very very pleased with it, cant believe how sporty it sounds in the tiptronic mode, feels very fast for a 4x4, god knows what the 4.5 V8 is like.
had a steady run on the motorway last nite and got 24.2 mpg!! so even better than my r.rover td6. :)
did get a genuine bargain, so very happy indeed.
think if you are on the ball with the autotrader/pistonheads you can grab a real bargain with some people panic selling 4x4's and the like.
did see an 06 reg cayenne for 18k, which seemed a bargain, but wasnt the colour i was after.
even seen the odd 2005 shape boxster for between 14-15k, which was also tempting.
