Buying Tips

Hi,

I'm looking to buy either a 924 or a 944, but don't know what common traits to look out for (other than a cracked dash).
Should I look out for anything in particular?
Also, can anyone make any suggestions for good/cheap insurance companies?

Any advice will be greatly received

I used Lancaster for my n/a 924's, fully comp limited to 8000 miles and SDP + C, £176

As for the S I've just arranged the same deal with Heritage for £224 (38yr old, 2 years NC, no vol. excess)

If you go for anything with the 2.5l engine check when the belts were done!! Sills can rot but the cars are fully ganv'ed so rust isn't normally an issue. 2.0l is a non-interference engine and bulletproof, takes about the same time to do a cam belt as it does the alt. belt!!

Just traet them like any other 20 odd year old car and look for as much service history as you can, test drive and ask if there is anyone inyour area that will go with you when you look at a car, not just for experience with the model but 4 eyes are better than 2. And you can always do the good cop bad cop routine to haggle the price [;)]

Would you believe I was just about to ask the very same question (albeit in a sort of checklist format).

Any more advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have 3 of them and this is what I think :

- check that the car start straight from cold start (put your hand on the engine before in case the guys did warm it up)
- Check the car start first when hot

This will solve the most common cold/start problem which is why some guys sell them.

They will all tell you they don't rust because they are galvanized, this is true to a certain extend, they rust under the car or where the guys put the jack to change the wheels.....

Make sure lights pop up, all electric works, sunroof etc....

Asked if you can pass the car in car wash to check straight leaking problem which are common on sunroof, ventilation system, doors.

Check the speedo and clock work, oil gauge, etc....

Don't worry about damage seats etc... they are easy to fix and cheap enough.

Hope this help
