Buzzing when door is open.

my 993tt recently returned from having a new alternator which seemed to include an extra feature... Now, when I open the door having driven the car, a loud and irritating buzz sounds Which stops when I close the door. Is this a standard feature (to make sure the door is closed) that has miraculously fixed itself with a new alternator, or is it a dire warning...... Or neither?
Help gratefully accepted!

As gismons has suggested there is the lights on buzzer (its not a nice sound), this may also operate when either of the parking lights are left on.

It's not clear to me if you're hearing a buzzer or just some sort of buzzing sound. Where does it seem to be coming from?

Assuming it isn't a lights-on warning it's possible that your door switch is making a poor contact and what you're hearing is the window relay chattering. With the ignition off do the windows go up and down when the door is open? Is the noise any different if the left or right door is open?
