Now sold to a gent by the name of George ~ comes to collect next week.
This despite the fact that I tried to kill him on the test drive... "I'll do a walking pace to redline run in 2nd to let you feel the delivery".... cold tyres and greasy roads.... suddenly very sideways.....ooops. "Yeah - they're nice and easy to correct when they do let go".... [&:]
S2 has been a superb car and fulfilled a boyhood aim to own one. Every drive an occaision. [8D]
I'm not a Porsche fanatic, but I am a driving enthusiast and the S2 pushed all the right buttons for me. Wifey is a form-over-function lady and it's retro cool looks suited her requirements also.
Change of circumstances meant we needed two full-use cars again (as opposed to 1.5 cars when we got the S2). It was pressed into daily use at this point with an 80mile commute. Not ideal for a low-mileage car, but not a major problem. I did get "a look" however when I had to decline collecting some customers from the airport...... so as I get a car allowance I thought it best to get something more sensible(ish).
Wifey still wanted something cool, and toyed with a TT. The idea that this could replace the S2 as a driving instrument was simply offensive []
So S2 was effectively replaced with a new 2.5WRX Wagon, which I'm delighted with. My first Japanese vehicle. Somewhat less "boy racer" than the saloon version. Razor sharp turn in, superb wet grip, great traction (naturally) and a highly flexible delivery mean it's very easy to make rapid progress. Seats aside, the interior is pretty much "crap" however, and the std fit stereo is utterly dysmal.
Thankfully, the TT concept was knocked on the head soon after this purchase - rear accomodation for the kids being significantly worse than the S2. I talked her into a Mazda showroom where she fell in love with the RX8 (previous showing of pictures yielding only "don't like it" responses). [8|] If you've never sat in the rear of one you'll probably be surprised - genuine 4-seater car.
So we now also have an 18month old RX8 (231bhp version) with full heated leather & satnav and 9-speaker Bose (and pimp tints, which have actually grown on me, but make it a major pain to reverse). It's a very pleasant place to be, is suitably quirky with "those doors" and the Wankel (snigger), plus it's a very different driving experience to the scoob (no torque, but 9k rpm redline). It does however make the scoob appear frugal (!)
EDIT : Even the PCGB forum software obviously sniggers at the name of the engine! [8|] )
I'm quite happy with our current garage - Pics of new "fleet" CLICK HERE . Mostly long exposure night-shots of the Rex.
I shall still pop in every now and again, and wish George all the best with the car.
Thanks to you all for your help over the last couple of years - the level of knowledge and the willingness from everyone to share it has saved me hours and £££ss ~ hat's off to you.
Particular thanks go to Fen, and not only for his single phrase response to a big huge email I sent him ~ simply Jap Boy []
