Thanks to all who gave me some advice some months back on making my 993 turbo sound better. In the end I just had some Fabspeed bypasses added to replace the boxes and the car now sounds amazing. It has a much deeper raspy growl and does not have any droning noise on the motorway. On start up it sounds like Riva Yacht which quietens down after warm up. So overall a very economical way to give me just what I wanted.

Glad to be of help. Cheapest upgrade possible.

I always equated the noise to one of the 1960's wooden speed boat tenders.

and the noise on start up from cold is unbelievable, the snap, crackle and pops.............

I'm glad you went for the Fabspeed bypasses, they could be the only mod you will ever need. Its also amazing how much those stock mufflers weigh when when you pick them up. You really could do a workout with them couldn't you.
That weight not being carried around now, enjoy.[;)]

no comments from the neighbours yet and yes they are pretty heavy chunks of metal. I only drive the car occasionally and on start up I do a feel a bit conspicuous but they do quiet down and when you hear all those loud bikes about especially the Harleys I think what the heck, it sounds great! Not sure what to do next to the car as it is polished and looking/driving really well! (The Skoda superb estate we also own does seem a tick dull in comparison but is a great car too!) Cheers

From memory they are 116db at idle!! tested at annual Porsche gathering.

Piece of advice they are a lot louder than you think they are from inside the car, I loved the noise, helped with the gear changes and stopped me hitting the limiter in first when I was being naughty.

1- Stand at the side of a road and get some to take of in your car, we are talking jet taking off noise

2 - Listen to a you tube sample on Fabspeed site may help explain
