C CUP OR G CUP

I'm tempted, oooooo I'm tempted!!!!

Seriously though, the C Cup is something you should ask your other half about but a Cup Pipe is another matter!!!

The Cup Pipe (so called because of it's use in the Cup racers) is a straight through pipe with no silencer function which is used to replace the primary silencer which fits across the back of the car.

A G Pipe (so called because if it's shape) is a much smaller bent pipe which replaces the secondary silencer which is fitted up behind the right rear wheel.

The difference is subtle and much depends on what you want to achieve. The Cup Pipe will increase noise, reduce weight and give you a small improvement in power (which is why the racers use it). The G Pipe will increase noise (more growly), reduce weight and do very little for your power.

Price wise there's not much in it - perhaps the G Pipe might be marginally cheaper but it depends on who's you choose to buy. I strongly receommend that you DON'T fit both at the same time unless you live in the middle of a field!!

BTW CAN YOU CUT OUT THE SHOUTING WHEN YOU POST NEXT TIME???

Regards

Dave

Mine had a G pipe when it arrived but would have been too noisy for trackdays so I put on a standard final silencer so my system was standard. I've recently replaced the primary silencer with a cup pipe for exactly the reasons mentioned by Dave. Here are my before and after recordings on youtube:

I fitted a Cup to my C2 ( still with CAT and Final silencer and I found it on long journeys too much (and I also noted no difference in power) so fitted the primary silencer back. Also when at Bedford trackday a fully fitted STD system just got through ..mods wouldn't and guys were being pulled over from the track side db meters that passed the static db test!!! With a full STD system I was fine.

What I have just fitted is a new tail pipe to the full STD Cat/Primary and final 2nd box, as the old one was getting messy and had a split in it, and this tail pipe is very slightly bigger, still 100% stainless steel , and does give a little deeper sound at certain revs..very subtle though. And not noticiable in the car . "Type 911" do them and they are the cheapest ..

You're right Ian, Bedford is THE most unfriendly track for our cars. In fact for most cars. Stupidly low limits for static and drive-by. Not their fault, it's the council that imposes the restrictions. A cup pipe is fine at normal circuits like, Donington, Brands and Oulton. And after driving these, I have no desire to bother with Bedford any more [:D]
