c tek not working plus best deal and choice for c tek or other charger

i noticed that when i plug my c tek in,,,,,i get just an amber light,,,,not able to switch to mode and when the clips are placed on battery then i just get the amber light,,,,
i have assumed? that after owning it for many years and no recent usage for nearly three years ,,that she is kaput!,,,,
my battery seems ok and starts every time including when i first took tenure off the transporter on a wednesday afternoon and put her straight into the garage because we were going away from thursday until monday and on arrival home she started up on the button even with a non functioning c tek attached,,,,,
if i do need a new c tek are lidls still selling the same item or is there a better charger that people use now?,,,,
Any advice and ideas much appreciated,,,,,
thanks jasonp

My c-tek indicates the same (amber) when first attached to the (good) battery, sometimes takes a day or two to indicate green.

its a strange one as i had it connected from a thursday to a monday but still amber and unable to set mode but battery was fine and she started up first time,,,,,,

before i would plug in..set mode to car instead of bike and what sort of weather regarding charge needed but now nothing just the amber,,,,,jasonp

I have used an Accumate - same principle as C-Tek - for the last 16-years and occasionally found that the light would not change to indicate the fully charged setting. This most often was due to the connector - mine is hard wired, not clipped to the battery terminals - not being fully inserted. These devices are very sensitive - I don't mean they take offence easily! - but do need good, sound connections to work efficiently. Make sure all the connections are fully 'home'.

Incidentally, I also bought the Lidl version as back-up but haven't had to use it yet, although I did try it to make sure it worked. Did the same job as the Accumate but a lot cheaper.

Thanks for that Les ,,

i have a good fiddle about her with her before i get another,,,,,good to know Lidl still stocks them,,,,,

Ive been using the C-tec for years and have found it a bit temperamental when setting sometimes.

Mines hard wired and attached to the battery with the plastic clip so need to make sure that's properly locked first. If you connect when switched on I think that may confuse it as well. What I do is connect, switch on at socket, set to car.....and it works most times, otherwise I just fiddle with the buttons and it goes to the amber charging light. I have just assumed that they are all like that, think I'd be a bit pissy if I spent my life in a freezing cold garage 🤔.

(even when connecting to a fully charged battery, it takes ages to switch to green)

Lidl /Aldi only sell them a certain times of the year when on a special .I always keep a spare one as they are only £14 . C-Tek usually goes to green in a few days I think yours has come to its life end [:(]by the sounds of it if you cant change the modes .

i think that nearly 3 years in a chilly garage albeit in box with no usage as helped end it,,,,,

Not being able to even change modes i thought would confirm this,,,,

plus side is my battery is ok ,,, starting after a 5 day break ,,first time,,,,

so looking around £36 for a new c-tek i believe?,

thanks for the replys,,,,,,,jasonp

Oops! bit of price rise since i last bought one...

cheapest i can find is £58 [uk model] with a long warranty,,,,,,jasonp

I think if there is no supply (not plugged in or off) an amber light comes on when connected to battery, so might be worth checking the fuse in the plug? Or power at the socket.

Tony

Tony,,,thanks

i will have a good old check,, try her in another mains socket etc,,,

Its the fact i am unable to switch modes that has me thinking she is kaput! and after basically six days away counting in the wed before we left on the thur and still amber when we arrived home on the monday as a working c-tek it would have fully charged the battery ,,,,,jasonp

Good news!,,,,

took my c tek indoors and left it in the warm overnight,,,

i then plugged it in this morning and Yes[:)] it let me change mode etc,,,

took it back down to the garage and tried her in the other sockets plus usual sockets and they all worked,,,,

i think if i recall correctly that one of my sockets was temperamental when i had my last S2,,,,

so after placing clips on battery i then switched it on and set the mode to car and was happy to see the green light flickering on full charge mode and "settled" amber on the setting below full charge,

So i imagine by overnight i should have full charge and it will then carry on keeping the battery nice and comfortable,,,

just to say thanks again to people for there input and ideas,,,,

cheers jasonp

Edited because of my awful spelling

Well I did say they could be sensitive to poor connections...

Hopefully it will be fine now but you may still want to consider the Lidl version as a back up. Handy to have and much cheaper!
