C2 or C4, that is the question....

A lot depends on use, and personal preference, but most would say a C2 is a "purer 911 experience". However, if it is a daily drive, the C4 gives a little extra security in the winter months.

I would drive both, and make my mind up which feels best to you. I say 'best' because they do feel different.
 
Hi Bill iam a new to this world I recently bought a c4s and I love the way it handles in my experience on this forum you won't go far wrong in taking Richards advice. What ever you choose porsche will put a huge smile on your face.
 
I wasn't particularly swayed by 2 or 4 wheel drive. I wanted a coupe with manual gearbox. I was fortunate options included M030 suspension with sports seats and that sold me after a test drive. On a practical side C4 has less luggage space and is slightly heavier (and probably greater tyre wear over a C2). If you plan to track it, then C2 could be your choice as Richard mentioned in its purest form.
 
I have a c4, and I have driven a c2. I agree they feel different for me I prefer the added security, but it's upto you. Both are fantastic cars, so I would be more swayed on service history, have all the jobs so to speak being done, don't buy it and expect not to spend money, they need looking after. But whichever way it will make smile, good luck with your search
 
Both have their merits. My C4 is my daily driver and I do like the 4 wheel drive for motorway/bad weather etc. get my 2 wheel drive fix from my 987!
 
C2 is lighter and feels it. C4 slightly more sure-footed (but there's not a lot between them, tbh).

Try them both?

 
Now here's an idea for you, maybe ??
I bought an 02 C4S in 2004 and after 10 years of generally trouble free motoring including several track days and two visits to the 'ring its now done over 100000. I needed to freshen things up a bit,and so after much soul searching , head scratching and advice not to do it.... I did it......took the 4WD system off!
Aghh...I hear you scream! But please read on...
Think of all that weight saved!
In addition over a period of time further weight saving has been carried out by removing the rear seats/belts etc, spare wheel/pump etc and a good Kenwood set replaced the old Becker CD/tape saving more gms and bringing the car into the 21st century.
I have also fitted gen Turbo wheels which are lighter than the original spec wheels. I admit I have pampered the old girl rotten but she has not let me down....yet !
So I have a 2wd 4S which I really enjoy driving and one that can bloody a few noses on track.
I told my insurers what I had done and after an engineers report by a local garage all was in order with them.
The changes have not upset the ABS at all but the PSM does cut in earlier than it used to....but not in a bad way. I believe that this can be recalibrated if desired.

There was a guy I read on rennlist that did the same and guess will give you another 10 years of pleasure.
 
So what did that achieve. Be really interested
When you say took it off - How much did you remove. Just the Drive Shaft or did you replace the whole front end
Just removing the drive shaft would leave you with a bit of weight on the front hand which would have its advantages - AND Disadvantages

How does it feel
 
I removed all the front drive hardware i.e the driveshafts ,propshaft and diff.
The car drives and handles really well at the moment on standard 4S suspension but I do have a few more jobs to do to achieve my aim which is to have car that is quicker and sharper than a 2S and more useable than a GT3.
