C2 or C4

A quick bit of advice please for a 924 owner who use to run an Impreza.
The 924 is for sale and I'm looking at early Carrera's or might push myself to a 964. If I can manage (financially) to push to a 964 which one do I go for C2 or C4 ?.

Bryan,

At the risk of starting WW3, the question of C2 or C4 is a never ending quest. It depends on what you want from the car.

Since you've had an Impreza you know what the security of 4WD does for you - and you'll get the same feel with the C4. If, however, you want a track car which is rarely going to see bad weather the C2 may be a better choice. The purists will have it that the C2 is more "911" but the C4 is a kinder animal to drive in all situations.

Stand back and watch the fireworks begin!!!

Regards

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

C4 for everyday all weather use, without a doubt. Occasional use? C2 or C4.

C2 everytime.

The 964 C4 was relatively early Porsche 4wd technology and apart from some extra traction in very poor conditions, I can't see the advantages - unless you particularly want a smaller boot, more weight, a more complex drive chain and more understeer.

Why buy a 911 and fit stabilisers?

I've had both a C4 & a C2 and prefer the C2. C4 is easier to drive, and I expect the fact that I owned one for 2 years before my C2, it probably helped prepare me for some of the handling characteristics of the C2, rather than me jumping in at the deep end with the C2.

My advice would be to forget which one to buy, just get the best condition car you can find. Most drivers would not feel difference anyway, although I did find the C2 to be nimbler.

I suppose you should try both and see which you prefer - personally I liked the C4, but i drive all weathers and dont use the car on the track. If it was just track or for only sunny day use I would probably lean towards the C2 for less understeer and lower weight. That said i do love my C4, but probably not beacuse it's 4 wheel drive...just because it's a great car, and a huge amount of fun.

I Like my C2, the only weather I haven't driven in is snow, but as for bad weather, it worries me not........even a frosty morning or two......just easy on the loud pedal...

Sorry I started this one, Although I think Andy might have the best idea !.
Go for the best one I find !!!

Cheers Andy
