C2 TIP - KEY NOT WORKING

reevers

New member
A few weeks ago the battery went down in the car. ECU had to be reset as usual false readings appeared after battery had been recharged.

Car working ok. Tried the "spare" key to unlock the car. Fob does not work, even trying to manually open the door, key in lock the car does not open.

Spare key was not taken to garage when the ECU was reset

Any ideas?

Kevin,

I think that you just need to synchronise your spare key with the vehicle system. My 987.2 Driver's Manual [probably the same for your 997] says:

1. Unlock the driver's door with the key at the door lock.
2. Open the driver's door and insert the ignition key into the ignition lock within 10 seconds to prevent the alarm system from being triggered.
3. With the key inserted, press and hold button 1 [the central locking button] on the remote control for approx. 5 seconds. The synchronisation is now complete.

Hope that fixes your problem.

Jeff

Are you saying the key will not physically unlock the door when inserted in the lock, or is it just not operating the central locking when used in the door?

Re syncing as above may well fix the fob not working and latter scenario, but if its not physically operating the lock, i.e. it will not unlock the door) thats nothing to do with the ECU reset.

Sorry, I should have read your original post more carefully Kevin.

I suppose that you could unlock the car with the working key and then use the procedure outlined above to try synchronising the spare key. Other than that, I think you may have to revisit your garage to sort out the problem.

Are you sure that the battery in the spare key fob is OK?

My battery went dead yesterday

Replaced with a Varta @ £140 inc vat (home fitted)

No issues with door locks, windows etc

All the functions re set and even the time display was true

No logic is there !!

Eventually found main key. Car starts ok no problem.

When trying to lock with spare key, does not mechanically lock when inserted into the lock
