C2 tip stalling

When car's up to running temp it sometimes stalls when engaging reverse gear. Problem seems worse after a run when engines warm. Car runs at a constant 180.

180? Is it US spec? Also, what model year? Manual or Tip?

If a 98 or 99 it might be the idle control valve, or it may be the MAF. Not sure why it only does it in reverse though.

Thanks again Richard, car is 1999 tiptronic, built in Finland, milage is 65,000. It seems like an intermitent fault, but it only stalls when engaging reverse, sometimes revs die right down and it doesnt stall, other times it does stall.
Will get those two items checked out thanks again.
ps How do you check MAF sensor?

I thought from the sound of it that it could be the crank sensor, but the reverse thing seems odd.

My crank sensor failed but only when warm would it cut out, it gradually got worse. It took me a while to diagnose as it corresponded with low fuel the first time it happened, and I thought it was a fuelling issue for sometime while I checked out all of those components.

Is there some sort of safety feature where the tip won't engage reverse while the car is moving forward? If the CAS / speed sensor is faulty perhaps it thinks the car is still moving? Just a guess.

The only way of checking the MAF sensor is by reading the output with a diagnostic tester. Although they are supposed to have a life of 100000 miles, they often start to become problematic at half that figure. I would suggest taking it out and give it a good clean with an isopropyl alcohol spray.
