C2S cab versus Boxster

I was at my OPC today and had a drive in a new 991 C2S Cab. Very nice even standard exhaust sounds great and car is a big step up from 997. However it does seem expensive especially as the new Boxster looks so good alongside the 911. The interior of the Boxster compares very favourably with the 991 and it is impressive to look at from the outside. The price difference of £40k between the two does seem difficult to justify. The Boxsters I have driven handle really well. My salesman was also a little flumexed as he tried to demonstrate the 911 roof with just the key and the roof jammed half open much to his embarassment. Has anyone else had this problem?

Bob, you make a very good point, the new Boxster is one of the prettiest they've made for a long time:p
I'm thinking the same myself..

Indeed. Now if only they fitted a couple of turbos...............[;)] The new Cayman will be a stunner too, by all accounts.

My days as a GT 3 driver will be coming to a close soon so have been trying a few other cars which include:

Bentley V8
991 Cab
Merc SL
Boxster

The Bentley was quite an experience and a nice place to be but not for me. Still a very heavy car which you feel when you push on.
The 991 Cab is a great car but a little expensive in my view
The new SL is excellent if you want a GT car. Quiet refined great roof good value etc etc
The Boxster was the big surprise. Great value compared to the above and a great drive. Great handling

Given the economic situation my dreams of being a Ferrari owner will have to remain just dreams.

Now a triple Turbo 991 might just fit the bill!!

I have owned 911 Cabs & Boxsters. I have drive both new models. I have to say that no way is the 991 Cab worth twice the price of the Boxster. The new Boxster is all you would want.

Try a F430 Spider before you decide. That will make your mind up.

Time to get your name on the list Bob, there'll be a bit of a queue for this one [:D]
I think it depends on how it looks [;)]
I for one have removed my name from the list until I see some interesting pictures, from whats been on the www they have not taken the Boxster styling over to the new Turbo. However maybe the current sales of the 991 will pressure them into doing something about it [&:]

interesting figures for the first half of this year. Looks like the 991 is doing ok.

Iconic 911 model achieves a sales plus of 27.9 percent

Porsche delivers 14 percent more sports cars worldwide in first six months
Stuttgart. The Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG can look back on a successful first half of 2012: With 69,171 vehicles sold in the first six months, the sports car manufacturer increased its customer deliveries by 14.0 percent compared to the same period last year. In June, Porsche sold a total of 12,699 new cars (up 18.9%).

Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG, says: "Porsche successfully continued on its growth path in the first half of the year. However, we cannot separate ourselves from the economy as a whole. With regard to the European Economic in particular, we will continue to monitor developments closely and respond quickly if necessary. Nevertheless, we are currently planning for double-digit growth in 2012."

Porsche reported gains in all important sales regions in the first six months of 2012. With 26,024 customer deliveries, Europe posted an increase of 19.7% compared to the period from January to June 2011. Of this number, 9,536 vehicles were sold in the German domestic market (up 20.8%). In the Asia Pacific region, the number of units sold increased 17.0 percent to 23,948 sports cars. By now the second most important Porsche market, China reported 15,274 new cars delivered, a year-on-year increase of 24.5%.

Deliveries of the 911 series reflect the success of the seventh generation of the iconic sports car: The figure of 14,338 Porsche 911s sold represents 27.9% growth. The Panamera contributed significantly to successful performance with 15,601 models shipped, an increase of 25.3%. The most successful model series in the first six months of the current fiscal year was the Cayenne: 34,727 vehicles were sold, contributing to an increase of 15.5% compared to the first six months of last year.

Rumours suggest the next Gen Turbo, suitably optioned, could be £150k + otr [:-]

Try this video too and a 981 with PSE should close the deal [8D]

I hope the 981 PSE is better than the contrived 991 PSE, which IMO is purely artificial harmonics designed to flatter the driver. Think the 991 with standard exhaust actually sounds better - and more natural.

Well the 981 PSE doesn't have the 991's interior filtered sound track so hopefully it will end up sounding even better and more natural than the latest 911's [&o]

Porsche are doing very well then. To increase sales in this economic climate, when I doubt the premium car market is growing, they must be doing well in attracting customers away from other marques.

Yes, and even with Europe in turmoil they've posted a 19.7% increase - most manufacturers would give their eye teeth for that in the current climate.

Peter, I wonder what the UK sales breakdown is? I suspect Porsche won't issue this yet. Talking to 3 dealers at senior level and one of whom I have been more than just a client for over 20 years with, are all saying they would like to see higher 991 sales, "that could mean anything though" . It seems that the cayenne, Boxster and Pamera are all doing very well. Maybe because there are so many excellent value 997s about ?

I'm sure you're right, I had the same conversation at my OPC today. Interestingly, sales of the new Boxster are similar to the 991 - satisfactory but not flying off the shelf. Overall sales are OK but spread across the whole range. Diesel Cayenne still the one with long wait list. But from Porsche's point of view the figures are still excellent.

Bottom line is even though there is a serious price hike on the 981 and 991 it is still a dam site cheaper than the equivalent competitor cars in price but most importantly in running cost. The cost of ownership of a Porsche is well down on the likes of Ferrari, Lambo and others. Depreciation of all sports cars is high.

We are living in tough times where a lot of people who could afford the luxury of a prestige car can no longer do so. Sales are bound to slow across all prestige marques as people focus more on neccessities and sorting out their irresponsible finances.
