I'm going to look at a 1991 C4 tomorrow. Anyone have useful advice for a 964 virgin?

Many thanks.

Thanks Elliot. Oh, so very nearly didn't get it checked, having been serviced at a main agents for last 7 years etc, etc, thought it was a good one. But fortunately I did, saving myself £17.5 purchase price + est £7k repair bill!!!!! Still looking (prefer a C2 anyway).....

Hmmm,

completely agree with Eliot, PPI with independant specialist, and then barter on price accordingly, then if ok HPI or similar for Vcar and finance stuff, cost around £200 or so tops.

Check turrets for creases, check windscreens front and rear for rust, check vin plate for scruffy appearance (shouldn't be a shiney paint job) check everything works properly, simple but yes people forget to, brakes in a straight line, 10mph in 2nd gear, floor it, should leap off like a scalded cat. 3rd gear accelerate, 4500rpm should kick again (vacuum operated mainfold plenum should open) distributor vent kit, clutch replacement, DMF (freudenburg or LUK?) oil leaks from cyl head barrel joint. non-standard parts. good tyres (not some Korean makes) oil pipes from filter, through right rear wheel arch should be on good cond. VIN no: check is it really a 91 C4? should be a plastic intake manifold.

thats it from memory

Kevin.

Visit www.titanic.co.uk 964 section for FAQ's and John Miles site www.porsche964.co.uk -give yourself a few hours!!

Would also be worth buying Adrian Streather's book.

For all weather year round use, don't knock the C4 -I owned one for six years.............
