Picked up my "new" C4S on Saturday morning - 54 reg and 43 k miles, feels and looks almost new. Will post some pics soon.

Am trying to decide whether to go for Porsche warranty - any thoughst welcome but don't just tell me its expensive - I know. But I would be interested to hear if anyone has had any experinec of claiming under the used warranty scheme

The Porsche used car warranty requires all the cars components to be original Porsche, that means no Halfords batteries, Parrot bluetooth kits etc.
Secondly, all servicing and ensuing repair work hav to be done by Porsche.

These are the only downsides, otherwise, they should cover you for most non wear nd tear failures, such as the engine going.

I have made three claims over the last two years, mainly for aircon failures, which resulted in two new condensers (on different occasions) and a new coolant pipe which involved removing the engine to fit! Also two new low tone horns, front drive shaft oil seals (they noticed these were leaking and changed them when one of the aircon condensers was being replaced) and an oxygen sensor (check engine light came on).

Personally I would not sleep without the cover - I also have an aftermarket battery fitted which was noted on the invoice the first time I made a claim, but they still did the work...

I guess it all depends on how much of a gambler you are - if nothing went wrong in a whole year you save £1,350, but how much would it cost to have the engine removed and replaced? Also, remember that the OPC gets paid for anything they do by the insurance company (assuming it is covered), so it is in their interest to do anything that needs attention everytime they have your car in their care.

Thanks everyone; I will go for the warranty as the cost of reparing anything is not going to leave much change from £1000 after labour, parts VAT etc etc

This car had the benefit of a Porscche warranty taken out in Nov 2009 by the previous owner who then traded the car at end Feb, havng done about 3k more miles sinnce the 111 point check, to an non Porsche dealer; so the warranty is not transferrable and while I have a dealer warranty as part of the deal its limited in its scope. Porsche do well out of this as previous dealer has paid for 12 months cover and has had 3 months cover. No refund.

So lesson is that you either trade when warranty near end of life, or sell privately...

In a similar position, bought my C4s cabriolet a few weeks ago, and need to decide whether to go for the Porsche warranty. A point to note is that a minimum period of ownership is required before Porsche will accept your car. Can't recall whether this is 3 months or 6.....so some time to decide and to find an OPC that I feel comfortable with.

Hi,

Congrats on a most excellent choice of 911, some would say the best looking of the 996 range[;)] I am not biased of course. Look forward to some pics.

The warranty is a difficult decision. I have had my 911 over 4 years now. I bought from an OPC and being a Porsche virgin at the time took the warranty and did so for 3 years. I had new rads and condensors and some other front bits changed under the warranty, no issues at all. However all parts have to be stock. Although I have read threads where after market sat nav does not void the warranty.

In my experience the cost of the warranty particularly in the 3rd year did not pay for itself and I was out on the balance sheet by several hundred pounds. Thus I decided to bank the money so no warranty in year 4, with no issues [:D].

I suspect once you have had the car for a while you will get more confident on its reliability. My beast is a 2003 plate and the plan should there be a big engine failure is to visit a little place in Germany called Ruf and go the supercharged route[:D]. Well it is the only way my beloved wife will tolerate more BHP in the house!!!

Enjoy your car, plenty of happy miles ahead of you.

Regards Alan.
