[FONT=arial"]Can anyone give me some guidance/reassurrance? I have recently bought a C4S with 15000 miles on an '02 plate. After 1100 miles it took a litre of mobil 1 after some demanding driving. Its just taken another half litre after 600 miles of general pootling about. Should it be using oil like this and if so wheres it going?

Cheers.

I think the Porsche specified acceptable figure is 1L/1000km although I stand to be corrected on this.

My 02C2 used around this amount when the car was new but the usage dropped off considerably post run-in.

My 01C2 was the same.

At 15,000 you 4S should be well run in. Assume you have checked for external leaks, undue amounts of exhaust smoke and coolant is not contaminated with oil?

I would have a word with your local OPC for advice.

Thanks for that. All the above were negated at the first point of concern. Where does it all go then, through the valves?

Past the rings I think. The Lokasil bores are really hard, as are the rings, and they often take a LONG time to bed in. It wouldn't surprise me if your oil consumption reduced with mileage. In the engines that I have heard of that have been stripped, ring wear is always very low. On the air-cooled engines it was much higher.
