C4S - PCM II phone and sounds

Hi all,

Just bought a 996 C4S (used, about 15 months old) and absolutely love it! Took it down to Le Mans for the pre-qualifying last weekend, cleared out the cobwebs if you know what i mean [:D]

The car has PCM II but no phone module and no 6 CD. My questions are:

1. Can a phone module be retrofitted to the PCM?

2. I'd like to add a 6CD, or preferably somehow connect a portable MP3 player (such as an Apple iPod) to the PCM

Any ideas or advice would be greatly apreciated!

Great site by the way!

Justin

If you have PCM 2 then your car has the fibre optic connections and any after-market additions are made difficult. The 6-disc CD can be fitted by an OPC but I believe it costs over £1000.

The phone module is also an expensive retro-fit item. Again, talk to your OPC. Another alternative might be a Bluetooth connection.

Don't you just wish that the previous owner had ticked a couple more boxes on the options list.

Thanks guys,

Wentworth car audio (they do all the audio for Maranello Ferrari in Egham) have just told me they can fit the Becker 6 CD changer for £360 (+VAT) - sounds OK?

That price sounds correct for a pre-2003 MY car. Make sure they know that your car has the fibre optic connections.

In answer to the question of connecting your ipod to the in car system have a look at www.ipodlounge.com in the gear guide section. There your will find reviews of low powered transmitters which attach to the ipod and will send a signal to your fm radio. The reviews of their success vary, chiefly because of problems with tuning into the signal. You need a completely unused radio channel which in the states is pretty hard to find. This should n't be a difficulty in the UK. Prices seem to be about $40 !!. I am going to get one to try out when on holiday over there in July. One word of caution, the use of radio transmitters is illegal in the UK although with the very limited range of this unit it shouldn't cause a problem
