Cab Questions

Considering a 993 cabrio. Anyone know if an 11 year old (around 4' 10") can fit in the back of a 993 cab with a 6' driver? I believe there are only lap belts in the back "" can these be converted to 3 point inertias?

Ideally, keen on a manual varioram with air con, speed yellow with black leather "" or, if I had the courage, GP white.

Also, how common /effective / desirable is air con? - for those hot wet days when the roof is not down!

Any views? Many thanks, David

At that height will fit in the back, it is once they get to about 5'5" that they will struggle.

Aircon in the 993 can be a bit hit and miss. It is not up to modern standards but is effective if all the components work. I have been using mine in over 30 degree and have actually felt cold!

I had the lap belts converted to 3 point belts at the Seat Belt Safety Centre. They work well with my 2.5 yr old who is anchored pretty well. They unfortunately are unable to fit inertias due to space constraints and safety concerns with the roof down. Hope this helps.

Hi David,

I originally looked at buying a 993 cabrio but I found that a targa suited our needs far better. Firstly from a safety point of view, yes, you can get the lap belts converted to 3-point (Stuart at Quickfit in Stanmore, Middlesex and I believe they can be inertia reels) but the children seemed to be very exposed in the event of an accident (mine are 6 and 4yrs). Also, with the hood up it's very claustrophobic in the rear seats due to the lack of side windows. The targa, however, has the full 3-point inertia belts (which Quickfit can also extend if necessary), is very light and airy and even with the roof open on a motorway run I get no complaints from the back. During the very hot spell recently I had to close the roof as the heat was almost unbearable but the air-con kept us cool (had an air-con service 5 years ago).

As for speed yellow/black leather, well, I'm too modest to comment![:)]

Excellent bunch who looked after my car well. Didn't do inertia belts when mine were fitted but this may well have changed. Lots to consider, but have to say top down motoring suits us very well. Good luck.

Jonathan.
